VFC H&K 416 review

I thought id do up a review on this baby now that ive had it for a while and put some milage on her.
people usually start with the box, hmm, well i havent even looked at the thing since i got this, anyhow, its a nice box if thats your sort of thing., :D

The AEG itself is an absolute beauty, the reciever is metal and has a nice anti scratch feel to it, it has full H&K trade marks on the reciever and stock too. even the mag has the "5.56mm X 45" markings stamped onto it.
The front rail is really nice and the best ive seen in all versions of the gun so far, it feels sharp to hold and its very hard wearing. even underneath the front rail they have CNC'd the outter barrel and finished it beautifully with the H&K markings on parts you cant even see until you strip the thing. This one is the short barrel version and comes with the fixed front sight instead of the flip up one you get with the longer barrel version. The top rail comes with the numerical markings from 0 up to 34 too.
All the markings on the gun are really hard wearing and still look as good today as they did when i first got the gun.
It also has a locking function on the hopup cover, you pull back the charge handle and it will lock the cover in the retracted position until you press the bolt release on the left side of the rifle. this is very handy for adjusting the hopup since you dont have to hold the charge handle back while you fiddle with it. it also gives ya that "chick-chick!" kinda "im too cool for school!" feeling when you cock it back, for no reason other than trying to look cool during a game. :D

The magazine is a hicap which is a little different to most, it doesnt have a winding wheel underneath like most hicaps, instead it comes with its own key for winding the mag though a little hole in the side, the underneath of the mag also has the "H&K" markings on it and it will unload the whold mag on the one wind.

One thing i hate about this AEG though is the PEQ box they give you with it, its some of the most cheapo plastic cr*p you have ever seen and i had to get rid of it. Also I dont like crane stocks and theres nowhere to store the battery internally on this sooo... Pretty much the reason i decided to do this review is to explain how to mod this to take an internal battery. I'll go into more detail on that im a min.

The top and front rail seen here with the numbering and the horrible PEQ box.

This is one of the pics i took a while back, its wearing a magpul PTS stock in this pic, thats no longer on it though,

Heres one of the internals of the gearbox, you can see this comes with a unique idea of spring loaded shims of sorts, its an ingenious idea actually.

Here she is again, wearing her old stock, its got the original H&K one back on now.

Heres the mag key that comes with the rifle,

you'l need to remove this piece to do the internal battery mod. getting the battery to fit involves seperating the cells and installing 3 of them in the rear stock tube and another 4 where the gas tube would be. it can be a finicky job but the finished product is worth it since it feels so light and un cluttered.

The stock still operates exactly as it did before hand,

This is where the 4 cells are located in the front rail.

At the moment mine is running on an 8.4V battery but im planning on adding another cell, that involves cutting away about 5mm of metal from where the gas tube thingy sits, its completely reversable if you ever wanted to aswell. Ill take some pics of the insides when im adding the new cell to the battery but in the meantime heres a vid to see how it works., :)

I got one of these last year and i have to say its a great piece of kit, i've a few bits on it and waiting to get a few more i'll throw up pics when its done!

Interesting though my PEQ box that came with the rifle was the smaller one and i ended up getting a Li-po battery for it, is that the PEQ box that came with it or did you get that one?#

Also do you have any input on what mags wud fit it? certain ones do and other don't, i never got the mag key with mine so i've been using these cheap mid-caps i bought somewhere but they're no gud, borrowing a friends hi-cap at the minute hate the rattling!

You can still get them, just not with the correct H&K trades anymore. Umarex took care of that. They are on Fire-support. VFC are re-releasing the 416 range with the Umarex trades but with the updated stock design and new pistol grip in AEG and GBBr form.

http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/vfc-umarex-hk416-aeg-airsoft-gun They have the 10.5 and 14.5DRS versions.
