Hope this is the right place to post this & that someone will be able to help me...

My main PC is a(n approx) five year old medion model. The other day it started rebooting & I noticed when I turned it off that the top of it was extremely hot (over the power supply).

Today after it being off for three days I turned it on & it stayed on for a while (I was downstairs so don't know how long), when I went back up I could smell a very faint burning smell & the PC was rebooting up to the post screen & then recycling. The top of it was very hot again, so I turned it off.

    Any ideas what's up ?

Sounds like either the CPU or PSU fan is banjaxed.

    It reboots when it overheats.

Thanmks. AFAIK, there is no cpu fan & it's very hot over the powersupply.

So I guess I'm looking at replacing the entire psu ?

I would be very surprised if the cpu only had a heatsink.

EDIT: and yes, looking at replacing whole psu. Prob about 30e to 40e

PSU 5 years old.... its probably packed with dust. Only (and only) if you feel comfortable doing so, remove the PSU and open the PSU casing and try and clean up the dust with canned air. There is always the risk of electric shock though, so take heed with that idea.
