How to get songs off an iPod into iTunes on a new computer

My family recently bought a new computer, and I'm just getting around to setting up my sister's iPod nano on it. It worked grand on the old computer, no bother. I downloaded iTunes and set it up, but it doesn't recognize the songs that are already on the iPod, they don't show up in iTunes. When I tried to sync it, I got a Windows error message:

"Do you want to scan and fix ~M's iPod ( K: )? There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you remove the device or disc before all files have been written to it."

Then there are two options "Scan and fix" or "Continue without scanning".

    Can anyone help?

Apologies if this is a bit of a newbie question, I use Creative's and don't really know much about iPods. I looked around on a a few sites and couldn't find anything helpful.

    Thanks!
