Condensing boiler question

    Hi.
I'm considering changing the existing oil boiler and putting in a condensing one instead. I've been told that a condensing boiler has to be working to capacity all the time to be fully efficient. In other words, if some of the rads are turned off the boiler will not run as efficiently as it could. Is this true?

the issue with CB's is that to work most efficiently the return water temp needs to be about 45C, what happens if some of the rads are off is that the return temp is too high.

What I normally do is 'undersize' the boiler back from the normal full design load ie all rads on all the time plus HW etc.
This means the the boiler is working at its most efficient for longer.
For example in my own house I have an 85,000 btu boiler. The trad design is for about twice that.

With proper zoning and staggered heating times, it works fine,
eg the hot water gets heated between 0630 and 0700 in winter and then the few rooms that need heating get heated from 0700 t0 0800
