    Many thanks for that.

Found one in B&Q Waterford on demo. 95 euro for it and 33 euro for the colours. Only 12 colours now, but a possible 33 in the future.

Demo of it looked great. If you had enough painting for 5 litres of the one colour, then perfect.

Or a roller will cost you a fiver... :D

The only thing I like about this is the self cleaning bit.

I have decided personally, that life is too short to wash rollers, I just chuck them.

I hate painting more than pretty much anything else but we've a lot of painting coming up over the summer, so some sort of gadget that would make the job easier would please me.

I'll still hate every second of it though.

gosh far cheaper than dublin, especially the paint. Let me know how it goes.:)

Apparently they are in B&Q, Galway for 47.99 at the moment. Going for a look tomorrow an dif they are, I may well get one.

They are 99 in Woodies according to their current brochure which I picked up yesterday. The 5 litre paint is just under €50.

Not much use though if you have a nummber of small rooms you want to paint different colour. 5L is a lot right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭AlanD

that is chronically over priced. B&Q are the cheapest so far and every few weeks they drop the price for a sale and put it back up.

We bought one and love it. It makes painting very very easy. But since you can only get 5L pods you do need to want the same colour in many places. If you needed base coats though, it's perfect.

Reading the back of one of these the other day in B&Q...Dulux kindly suggest that the paint used for the pod system isn't like ordinary paint and that using normal paint in the pod could end up with poor results...
Protectionist bullsh*t IMO. Emulsion paint is emulsion paint...the only difference I could envisage is that the pod paint is slightly thinner or has a lower solid content to allow it to flow through the delivery system.
With that in mind I'd be fairly confident that you could get an empty paint pod paint container, clean it out well and then fill it with your own emulsion that's been thinned perhaps 5% with clean water.
Note that you don't necessarily need to fill it with 5lts, just with the amount you need to do the job. 5lts is usually about enough to double coat a standard living/bed room.
In this way you get an almost limitless colour palette and you don't pay through the nose for proprietary paint product.

As for the system itself? Used something similar in the 'States years back (a battery operated backpack with pump) and have used a roller attachment for an airless sprayer. These are both professional grade tools and cost a fair bit more than the Dulux thing. They're really only of practical benefit if you have a large area of one colour to cover and spraying isn't feasible.

The reckoning is that it's up to 40% quicker as a lot of the time painting is spent actually loading the roller and evening out paint on the surface; with a constant delivery system this time is much reduced.
Still think this system is a little gimmicky though and I personally won't be using it...perfectly fine for the DIYer though.

Just in B&Q Naas earlier this evening and checked out the price. The machine is €70 and the 5Ltr paind pods are €39.95.

Wertz - if what you say about using other paints is correct then I would definately consider investing in one. I just had a bad experience using those fence sprayers that were everywhere for the last couple of years so I'm sceptical. That being said, I haven't really looked properly into the Dulux machine and how it works.

Would be great to hear how others have gotten on with them.

Don't take what I say as gospel, but I can't see the difference in paints making any difference to the application system. Perhaps Dulux guarantee a one coat cover using the proprietary paint or something.
Never used one of those fencelife spray things...looked like something you'd put weedkiller on with tbh...

Don't waste your time trying one - they are useless in my experience. The only thing I could ever get to go through the sprayer machine was water - never paint. Might be useful for weedkiller though now that you mention it!!!

We've just built an extension and bought the PaintPod to do the painting for us.....so to speak. We had a nice bit of painting to do and many coats since we were going directly on to plaster.

We absolutely love it. The quality of the paint is excellent that comes in the pods and the act of painting itself is brilliant. You fly through walls. Edges are still a pain, but the brush that comes with it is very good.

I couldn't recommend this machine highly enough. We'd still be painting now I reckon if we didn't have it and the place would be a mess. This thing doesn't splash....well it does if you feed it too much paint, but you learn as you go.

We're on our 3rd, since the first two had a couple of minor faults, so we brought the machine back to B&Q and they replaced it straight away.

One thing to remember is once you are finished using is, make sure it's very clean. I always do two clean cycles and manually rinse everything myself. Once paint dries in, especially to the filter part it won't be much good to you in the future. So mind it and it will serve you well.

Just had my first experience of Dulux PaintPod, started on the ceiling...it's crap. I'm going back to B&Q to try and get a refund and buy some rollers and a tray.

The roller takes ages to load and when it does it applies the thinnest layer of paint. You have to keep going over the tiniest of marks again and again.

    DON'T BUY ONE

You are possibly not feeding it enough paint? You have to pretty much keep the trigger going.....not too much but, enough to keep the paint coming.

I know we had issues with some rollers and got the pod replaced twice I think. The current one paints really well.

i got a paint pod a couple of weeks back and thinned some normal paint as recommended and it was a disaster, never wanted to use the stupid machine again, dripped through the roller was awful.....my boyfriend then bought the "right paint" (I was dubious!!) and i take back everything, was amazing and I'll never be using a brush again, was so quick. gorgeous flat finish and the cleaning is the best part...you do need to give it a second wash however. thought it was a gimmicky gadget but was proved wrong!

    not enough colours though :(

    they're a heap of sh1te,
overpriced paint little choice of colour, stuck to 5l,...gimmick like those spray things for your fence, that basically spray coloured water

if you bought new rollers and threw them away you'd save space in your shed and more importantly money.
