Hi I am looking for a 1975 to 1979 Kadett either coupe or ordinary. Not many around, but am sure there must be a few lying here or there.

By coincidence I was driving into Enniscrone the other evening and I saw an auld lad climbing into a well worn blue Kadett 2 door saloon. The sight caught my eye, partly because I mentally rewound by about 20 years and partly because I like the idea of getting a Kadett (or Ascona) myself. Not a lot of help to you, but a nice story.

Yeah, I am surpirsed that there aren't more of these around, didn't think they rusted badly, but then again they are gone nearly thirty years.

I remember seeing not too long ago on one of those Japanese car sales sites the Isuzu Gemini (RWD version) equivalent for sale. Same car, just a different badge on the grill.

Surely a few of them were imported here 2nd hand during the 80's?

There was also a Holden Gemini in Australia. Check out www.holdengemini.net for more details.

I knew the Vauxhall chevette, was similar though not quite the same. However I was not aware of the other companies, so will keep scouting, thanks for the info and anymore would be of help.:pac:

I had a 78 one back in the day, it was only for field use though, i have a low miles chevette now. There used to be loads of them around, but they have all disapeared now,sad really.I saw an irish one recently down here in kerry on a JZN reg,it looked clean.
Great little car,not as well finished as well as a chevette is though, a few turn up n carzone every now and again, though the last one i saw was up for 6grand!!

I too am a fan of 70's/80's Opel's....the Kadett Coupe, Manta and Monza in particular. (The village where I grew up in Wicklow had an Opel dealership in it so I suppose thats where the interest in them started!)

I've owned a '78 and '86 Manta Coupe's in the past ...and a couple of Kadett's - both rear wheel drive (RWD) and front wheel drive models.

I would suggest that a good place to start in your search for a Kadett is the Opel/Vauxhall Ireland site - www.vxopel.com
I believe there are currently plans to establish a RWD Opel club here in Ireland.

best of luck in your search ....hopefully you will find an original Irish reg Kadett and restore it to it's former glory:)

A few pics of nice RWD Opels.....

I know of someone selling a 77 Vauxhall Chevette, body looks reasonably good, painted matt black. He is looking for €800. Is that of any interest?

Interestingly, the second Opel listed above on carzone was imported from the Isle Of Man...hence the 'MAN' reg number. I saw this car in use while I was there for a week's holiday back in 2005!

It looks to be in nice original condition ...tho the price is a bit on the strong side for my liking:confused:

This is the pic I took of it parked up on a street in Douglas....

This is the sort of thing you should be aiming for:D,if i had the balls to, and my chevette wasnt so original i would try it myself!!You should buy the matt black one,and stick in a Red Top,then you would eat rear tyres:eek:!!I particularly like the neat dizzy drive off the cam pulley!!:)

Thanks for the info lads, loads of stuff to go on there, I would probably still go for the Opel, and the two in Carzone look particularily well. They are probably a bit outside my budget but I will keep looking.
