hey, you have probably sorted this out already but as I had a similar problem today decided to post a reply for someone else who gets frustrated by this. in the end it turns out there is no trick to it, you have to just force the lid as much as you can (carefully to not break it of course), after 10 minutes of struggle it came off in the end so don't give up.
