Just a quick question, we were all on our break in work, and we were all having a laugh, one of the guys was messing and saying things bout me, anyway it was a joke, though as a joke i took a newspaper and hit him a few times we were all laughing after that though while i was hitting this guy the HR director walk in, and he gives me a very dirty look. Can he do anything about it. My colleague was making fun of me saying something about someone working me like a dog.....and u know urself when u try to train a dog u disciplin him with a newspaper, hence why i gave him a few over his head, but me and him dont have a bother we are always like that. my question is can the HR director do anything about this? it was just a joke between me and guy x, but i dont know if the director saw it that way!

He probably won't. If he does he'll tell you it's unacceptable behaviour in the workplace. Don't argue, just say sorry and be on your way.

EDIT: Actually he'll probably be more worried about you being on the net in work but who am i to talk.

Thats not too big a problem, i'd be suprised if anything is said, if it is, just take whatever is said and forget about it

He has more important things to worry about than a couple of work colleagues getting along well.

    Forget about it.

Unless the guy who was being hit complains I doubt he'll do anything about it.

course he can complain about you, same way you can complain about anything. He probably won't because it sounds like the most trivial thing in the world

If the guy you were hitting made a complaint that would be your only problem but as you said you were just messing and he wasn't bothered.

I very much doubt the HR person would make an issue out of it.

oh no he wouldnt do that as he was making fun of me, but him and I are ok, God we always joke, but i thought he can make a complain even if it hasnt got anything to do with him!

Ah Anna you never fail to amuse me.

Firstly not really a PI. More a work and jobs questions but maybe you didn't feel comfortable posting there.

About your "problem", your HR person would be entitled to say something to you regarding unprofessional conduct but I doubt he will.

I am pleased I amuse u Alan. Sorry I forgot about that part. Yeah I know, though can he bring a disciplinary against me?

Well with out knowing about the structure of your work place we wouldn't know if he could.

I imagine HR people are in charge of things like workers conduct, dress sense, bullying and such not.

If you are asking can he bring a charge against I imagine he could yes. Will he bring a charge against you or even mention it ever again. I doubt it.

1000+ staff, the usual procedures that u would get in any company that size! i was just a bit taken aback by the look he gave me and him walking out like he will do something....oh he IS working on the training and development side of HR!

Ever think that maybe he walked into the room looking for someone, they weren't there so he walked out. Off course he would have strange look on his face when he sees some hitting somebody on the head with a newspaper.

Not like thats an everyday thing.

Ah don't panic, he could have been in a bad humour already. Just behave around him, I really doubt anything will happen unless he has very little to occupy his time.

    Are you for real?

Jeeze - it was a bit o' messin. This PC culture is going to be the death of us all.

EDIT: Thought this had been moved to Jobs - no insult was intended.

well i know i was messing but i wonder if he sees it that way, ah he can take a grievence against me, saying something along the lines of "I have been in shock ever since i saw her beating the guy with a newspaper and i am unable to work"

Going in to the director to explain? I think you'd just be making trouble for yourself by bringing it to his attention when there's no need. Just keep your head down and stop worrying!!

i will just have to wait and see if i get pulled in, the reason why i am so worried its because i had a disciplinary about a year and a half ago, as my manager thought i shouted at my supervisor, anyway nothing happened and i didnt get a warning....but still...thats the only reason why i am concerned....and paranoid!

Yea, I know what you mean, just keep out of his way, be extra good and it'll all be ok.

This thread is really confusing me.

Nothing bad happened. You're being incredibly paranoid.

Why would you go into the HR director to explain yourself?

Trying to understand this is hurting my head.

If your disciplinary was a verbal warning this is usually only on your record for 6 months and a first written warning is on your record for 12 months. Sure he only had a look on his face because he thought walking in and seeing somebody being hit over the head wasn't very professional behaviour in the workplace ;) I mean what if it was visitors to your building or customers walking in who saw it, thats probably what his mindset was, just flashing you a disapproving look.

I really wouldn't worry about it, he shot you a look to show his disapproval it won't go any further

it never got as far as a verbal warning, it was just forgotten about it and never mentiond again, i was not put on a verbal or written warning, there was just a meeting with myself the hr personell and my manager and that was it and they came to a conclusion that I do not require a written or a verbal warning!
