    For research purposes of course.

Could this possibly be the first argument on the Zombie forum....?

    Are you a zombie spy!?

Hard to say what's the best really. I like Braindead, and Dellamorte Dellamore. Fliploads of others too though.

Yeah i love the ol apocalyptic vibe. but i would be fairly sheltered whjen it comes to zombie films. i would have a fairly mainstream knowledge. cool keep them coming

Never heard of the Dellamore thingy, must get a hold of it.
I watched Diary of the Dead last week, it was quite good and put a topical slant on the whole zombie genre.

Diary is the latest in a line of George A. Romero 'Dead' movies. Starting with Night of the Living Dead, then Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, and now finally Diary of the Dead. They are all must see if you ask me.

In my personal opinion I think Day is the best, but Dawn is regarded as the strongest by most. With Land being a bit of a contentious flick.
It's a good place to start with those.

I've also recently seen Versus, a Japanese swords, guns and typically over the top zombie violence flick that's worth a watch, mainly because anything that comes out of Japan tends to be mental.

There's a long, long list out there and the Film forum would probably be the best place for a search.

    Good luck and have fun!

thought it would be better to come staright to the experts.

Saw zombie diaries. not so bad. its basically normal ppl going on rampage killing everything not only zombies. classic. never understood how ppl got caught by limpers. the best defence from those guys was a swift jog ha ha. will look that one though

This has popped up on the Films forum recently enough, you can see the results of which here, plenty of good recommendations, and here is a thread from the Horror board, where you should also find some good stuff.

Kitamura is certainly a talented guy. He's directing the upcoming Midnight Meat Train, which I'm very excited about. This picture quite simply makes me terrifically excited about it, it's triple distilled win in jpg format:

    The Happiness of the Katakuris.

    There. I said it

It has 1 musical number with zombies, and that's it. It's certainly great and completely off the wall, but I'd be very wary of introducing anyone to that film under the pretence that it's a zombie film.

I want my zombie sumo, and you can't stop me.

That said, you're completely right when I think about it!

28 weeks later was pretty good. but i think they really need to stir up the idea of the zombie to come up with something. the running zombies kinda changed the whole genre fo me. all my well laid plans involved being able to walk swiftl away. ha ha

i generally find the budget films have better ideas and stories.
Any recommendations. i am on moviestar.ie. needless to say they dont have half the stuff you mentioned

Hmm for info on shufflers it would have to be Night Of The Living Dead and Dawn Of The Dead.

For sprinters it would have to be the remake of Dawn Of The Dead.

Maybe obvious choices, but they pretty much cover what you need to know on each type.

    And Samurai!!

Actually that should be enough to sell it alone. Zombies and Samurai!

Check out Wild Zero, another crazy asian Zombie flick, with aliens. Undead is pretty cool too.

Day of the dead was ****e. There I said it.

Watched Versus over the weekend. Impressive, off the wall and funny too. I'd highly recommend it :D Some real laugh out loud moments

To the research list i'd like to add -
    Return of the Living Dead
    Special Dead
C.H.U.D II - NOT the first one, only the sequel

Not quite a film but I picked up the first three books in 'The Walking Dead' series of graphic novels. I read half the first one on the train down. Quite impressed so far.

    + 1

Im up to number 7 now at the moment, still waiting on 8 to be released. Great reads! Actually great reads for general zombie tips of what to do and what NOT to do as per how some of the characters die :)

Film wise all i can add to what has been already said but give Zombie Creeping Flesh a watch or the first Zombie Flesh Eaters. I have a few zombie flicks here that are woeful but i just had to buy them for the sake of watching them to see: Zombie Lake, Zombie Chronicles & Cannibal Dead :pac:

Edit: City of the living Dead is also a good watch, very unnerving to watch (still). Zombies look really i suppose 'terrifying' but they don't actually eat people in the movie, only kill them in really gory and twisted ways

Just took delivery of 4 and 5 this morning as I ran out the door. Must surely be compulsory reading.
Will be getting the next two as soon as funds allow.

Zombie Flesh eaters (Zombi 2)- directed by Lucio Fuci

All you need to know is it's full of gore and that a zombie fights a real shark in it.

You can pick it up in Tower for about 12 quid.

After this thread, I ordered books 1-6 of The Walking Dead. They arrived a few days ago, I'm already onto number 5. Quite frankly, it's the best thing I've read since Watchmen.

Horayy! I'll be ordering 6 and 7 next week :) I have to admit it's been an absolute age since I even considered reading any kind of graphic novel.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

And I've all 6 read. I'm going to wait until 8 is out, and order both 7 and 8.

Is there any more planned after 8, or is that it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

I think there is 9 in total but im not sure. I checked the page on it on Wikipedia and it seems to be 9 issues in total. However i wouldn't read the synopsis for issues 8 & 9 as it pretty much tells what happens in them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

There's no plans to end 'em as far as I know. Don't quote me on that though.

They've been running for a few years now (since 2003) and I fear they may be coming to the end of their cycle nonetheless.
Each book comprises over 6 months work, so they are slow to appear. The next one is out tomorrow coincidentally.

Anyone heard of REC? As in the little red dot when you are recording a video?

Is a spanish zombie flick, is supposed to be really really good - So good Hollywood is after deciding to remake it in English, for all the lazy Americans who think subtitles are too cultured... Anyways, was talking to some other zombie nerds the other day, came in as highly recommended.

Watched it last night. It's a pretty good movie.

Sure, you can see the plot unravel with all the twists and turns of a ruler but there are some genuine jumps in it. Zombies are of the 28 days later variety but in a much more confined and claustrophobic environment. I'd rate it above those movies.

One thing is tho that the sub titles do distract you as your eyes are flicking down to read them when you should be watching the movie. Still I enjoyed it a lot.

It's one of those movies where you feel like screaming at the screen "of course it's not just some infection, stop debating what's going on amongst yourselves rationally, hasn't one of you seen a zombie movie before, they're obviously the fukin undead, get out of there!"

But I didn't. Seemed pointless as I don't speak Spanish.
