That's exactly what it is, there were complications around her last birth as far as I know so he's staying behind to be with her. He's going to be in contact with the coaches though and still taking part, unlike our "observational team" or whatever they're calling themselves.

On Silver Fern they absolutely ripped into Kidney for not going as coach. Apparently Johnson not going at all is fine though:confused: That being said, he's right. I wouldn't either. But still. They really abused the hell out of kidney on there.

There is no real reason why Kidney shouldn't be there as head coach...

Apart from not wanting to start his career as Ireland coach with a defeat... if he thought we had a good chance of winning the AB test he'd probably be there to take the credit. Better to let Bradley take the fall...

It's utterly ridiculous, having Bradley in for the BaaBaas game was fine, but I don't see any reason why Kidney is shying away from these 2 tests.

Is it because his coaching staff won't be in place?

Don't think anyone has any great expectation that Ireland will win, so I doubt if Bradley will have to take too much ****.

    Anyway, from Leinsterfans.com :D

    Peter O'Reilly Sunday Times

Ireland's newly appointed coach, Declan Kidney, will be in Wellington and Melbourne for the Tests against New Zealand and Australia, though only in the role of an observer. Kidney will use the trip primarily to gen up on the Experimental Law Variations to be implemented next season, while also spending time in talks with provincial directors Michael Cheika and Matt Williams, both of whom will be in Australia at the time.

Kidney's style is not to tread on the toes of Michael Bradley and Niall O'Donovan, who have been made caretaker coaches by the IRFU. It's understood, however, that Kidney's preference would have been to take charge immediately after the Munster season ended and there will surely be times this month when he'll feel the urge to tweak his role from observer to adviser at the very least.

i thought it would have been because he didn't have his coaching team in place. anyway, you know that he's looking for coaches that have experience with the ELVs

Jus for the record my opinions are nothing to do with the fact he has coached Munster,I am looking foward to seeing him take charge but I dont believe that for a second and I think he should have coached them.

Kidney is still only an employee of the IRFU who can dictate at this stage who does what. Maybe Bradley wouldn't take on just the Baa-Baa's game without the whole tour. Maybe the IRFU want to enhance Bradley's coaching CV, as coaching Connacht hasn't enhanced it much and is in need of a leg up if looking for a more high profile coaching job ;)

Or maybe Kidney didnt want to take the tour because he felt we didnt stand a chance!

All we are doing is guessing.

I'm sure some folk won't let your puney facts get in the way of having a pop at Kidney. :(

So what do you think he will do next time Ireland go on tour and we won't stand a chance? This is probably the best chance we will ever have at beating the ABs.

IMO, the Sunday Times doesn't seem to be guessing!

I think the last 2 or 3 tours to NZ I've heard "this is probably the best chance we will ever have of beating the ABs". David Wallace also said this in a newspaper interview this week. And just because a journalist says he "understands" something, doesn't make it fact. If Kidney didn't take the team for the tour for the reasons we suspect, of course he would want people to think that actually no, he did want to take over....

the sunday times are klike any other paper, they make these things up.The IRFU probably leaked that info to make Kidney look better.

Just admit you are guessing, the same as I am.

Well, the difference this time is the ABs have huge changes - and nearly all the Irish lads should be high on confidence between Magners, HC and Premiership medals and when did Declan Kidney start using newspapers to get his view across? :D

As a perfectionist, I would think that Kidney would find it very difficult to coach a team that he has not selected, no backgroom staff in place to delegate to and would only have had a week with before arriving in NZ, particularly a week after a European Cup Final against Toulouse. It wouldn't be fair on the players either to do that to them.

    Em,that makes perfect sence.

They are also in charge of making sure the coaches public opinion is good, they have a media department and if they thought that he was getting negative attention for not going on tour, then of course they would leak a story to say that he wanted to go.

Im not saying its the truth but not be so nieve to think that things like this dont go on.

I'd say the IRFU's PR is about looking after 'their own'. DK is not 'one of their own'. Never was, and never will be. Only reason he got the job is because a) no one else wanted it and b) they couldn't ignore his cv. Now, Michael Bradley is 'one of their own', (as the son-in-law of one of the three wise men) so it would not be in Bradley's or IRFU's interests to say anything about Kidney wanting to take over from Bradley once they got to NZ ;)

Lads, there is a PR forum for this sort of discussion. The OP asked about Johnson. How in god's name did the degenerate into a bitchfest so quickly?

Will someone please change the Topic Title as this thread has now been hijacked by the anti-Kidney brigade.

No it hasn't. I'll lock the thread instead.
