    Greetings,

I really need to know the weather in Dublin on the 4th/5th August 2007.

    Specifically at 01:30 on 5th August 2007.

I tried looking at Met Eireann's website, but to no avail...

I believe there were thunderstorms around this time.

    Hope someone can help,

    Hey Snowbie,

You seem to be a weather guru.

Do you know if I called up Met Eireann whether they'd provide me with data?

Legend. Thanks for that. Really useful information.

    One question:

    What does this mean:
Totals (mm) for 4th/5th to 07z

    Roches Point (41 m) 38.0
    Cork-Corcaigh (162 m) 34.0
    Valentia Island (30 m) 31.0
    Shannon (20 m) 26.0
    Birr (72 m) 23.0
    Dublin Csmt Aero (93 m) 22.0
    Mullingar (104 m) 22.0
    Dublin AP (85 m) 16.0
    Kilkenny (64 m) 16.0

Particularly the Dublin rainfall. Is this rainfall on a per-hour basis or for the whole day? Is this waay above average for this time of year?

I need to show that there was torrential rain that night! A nice graphic would be nice too, but I don't know if Met Eireann (or some other official source) have such graphics?

Here gives historical half-hourly reports for Dublin Airport:
    http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/EIDW/2007/8/5/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA
but it's only giving light rain for the time your interested in.

I had my wettest day since I started recording here about a year ago - 36.1mm rain, on the 5th, pretty wet day!

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Thanks for that. So does this mean that there were isolated pockets of thunderstorms that only effected very localised areas?

I guess an animated map over Ringsend at this time is waay too much to wish for?!

    (I'm in Ringsend, Dublin btw)

    Hi Mobhi,

    Thanks for your insight.

I noticed that humidity was 100% on that day -- is this normal? And would thunerstorms be more likely in 100% humidity?

Cantab what you really need are radar images for the time period in question.
It looks like it as a pretty wet day and thunder is a possibility..checking out the thunderstorm threads here is probably the best way to find that out (Snowbie and other thunderstorm nutters will have posted madly about any cells in any part of Ireland on the day).
Unfortunately we didn't have the "current weather conditions-month year" thread format at the time which would have helped.

Other than that the Irish Met Office is your best bet.

I'll see if i can find anything, I'm interested too looking back to see what made that day the wettest in the last year here.

August 2007 monthly weather bulletin is available on Met Eireann website
On page 3, no mention of 5th for thunderstorms.

I don't think there was torrential rain anywhere that night. There was a lot of rain over a number of days after a wet June and July.

100% humidity is normal in light misty weather such as reported by Dublin AP for that time, less so for torrential downpours.

The figures in the table you posted are the totals for the 4th and the 7 hourd to 7am on the 5th.
22mm during 30hrs is not exceptional.

I recorded nothing in the way of thunderstorms around that time.
In the attach below is the radar image for that time and date.
Seems like a front was straddling the country.
