    2. is it possible to get some sort of a splitter for the one LNB

    thanks

1: Yes, but it needs more than one output. If you meant LNB feed, yes but you can't watch and record or dual record.
2: No, you need dedicated outputs from an LNB or multiswitch (which requires a special LNB to begin with).

You need a quad lnb and two separate cables going to your sky + box.

so can you watch and record the same channel at same time
    using one LNB feed
but cant not watch and record a different channel at the same time

how about splitting 2 outputs on a Quad LNB?

    As in
    2 Way Splitter on output 3 = SKY + box 1st input
    and FTA receiver
    2 Way Splitter on output 4 = Sky + box 2nd input
    and FTA reciever # 2

    Any hope of her working?

As stated here many times you cannot split a cable coming from an LNB.

so what's this yolk for then?

    http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/F_type_splitter.html

seems a heck of a lot like it's mechanically possible.

Its for the purpose described on the product page "Can be used for splitting the cable output of a satellite box or cable TV connection to feed more than one TV. Cannot be used on the cable coming from the satellite dish."

    Hi Tony

Is my understanding of LNBs correct?

Dual LNB = 2 LNBs and 1 feed / cable

Quad LNB = Quad Output LNB = 1 LNB and 4 feeds / cables

Also, for 1 Sky+ receiver and all its Sky+/PVR features, would a Twin Output LNB do the job also?

    Cheers!

I can understand your need to confirm this as the terms used have become blurred over time. Many years ago dual lnb's were a single lnb with horizontal polarisation on one output and vertical on the other(they are no longer used) . Two single lnbs on one dish will give one receiver access to two satellites like astra 2 and hotbird. You are correct about the quad, a twin output will work but its hard to find these to fit a sky minidish, you can get them for standard dishes like triax etc. Hope I've explained this ok for you.

Yeah the terms used are confusing, so thanks again for the clarification!
