Another Handicap Q

Okay another bloody question on handicaps.. If you shoot +1 (net) of the CSS your handicap goes +0.1, If you shoot -1 your handicap goes -0.1

Is that the simplest way to forecast your handicap movement? Is there a tolerance around CSS where no adjustment takes place?, if so I've a looooong way to go in my dream of lowering my handicap as I was lumbered with a totally unrealistic one to start with, I must have had the appearance of someone who looked like I was going to make a clean sweep of the major prizes in the first year (but thats only cos I like to clean my clubs and shoes :D)

There will be a buffer zone around the css. It works roughly like this...

Category 1: Handicaps 5 or less Buffer Zone 0 to +1
    Category 2: Handicaps of 6 to 12 Buffer Zone 0 to +2
    Category 3: Handicaps of 13 to 20 Buffer Zone 0 to +3
    Category 4: Handicaps of 21 to 28 Buffer Zone 0 to +4
    Category 5: Handicaps of 29 to 36 Buffer Zone 0 to +5

If you're score is in the buffer zone you won't go up 0.1.

Thanks Graeme that clears it up, now I know what target I have to hit just to stay still

It is possible to get cut a full shot, correct? and I assume thats not because someone was -10 CSS?

    Hi

I was off 17 at the start of the year and basically for every shot under the CSS I shot since i have been cut .3. So if CSS is 69 and I shoot 66 net, then I'd be cut .9.

having got my initial handicap, is this the only method by which my handicap will be adjusted?

from reading other posts I think that the committe responsible can assign you an appropriate handicap based on general play - not 100% certain on this. For example if all of a sudden you're playing to +5 while your handicap is +28 you can be reduced to +5 by the committee without playing lots of rounds below your official handicap.

Generally no. But they can cut you for performance too. You generally have to be goodscores though. If you shoot say three rounds under you handicap in quick succession, theymight cut you an extra bit. Also if you win two team tournaments in a row they might do it also.

    +1
Just to add you can be cut on form, afaik it's rule or clause 19, and it's refers to comps only, yet you can be cut for non competitive rounds but you'd have to fill out and hand in your cards, but it rarely if ever happens.
Also afaik there is a points scoring system in place to look after team events and it works as follows, when you reach 5 points you get cut a full shot, and the points work like this 1st=3 points 2nd=2 3rd=1,
