    Hi,

Please let me know if this is the wrong place, but figured someone here may be able to help.

I've to print about 20 images for a portfolio for a college application. There is no image size mentioned on the brief and I am wondering if there is a standard size I should print my images. 8X10, 8x12 or 11X14. I could be so wrong with these guesses.

    Thanks,
    Grainne

There is no harm at all in phoning the admissions office and asking, and they might not even realise that they haven't specified the size.

At a guess I would say an admissions office would want postal applications to fit in a foolscap folder in a filing cabinet, so mounted on A4 (8.3 by 11.7 inches) or foolscap (8.5 by 13.5 inches).

Which college is it, if you don't mind me asking?

Hmm.. well I applied to DIT and IADT this year, and I got an A3 sized portfolio but got images that were 6x4, 7x5, 9x6, 8x10, 12x8 and one or two A3 sizes.

I think getting lots a different sizes really helps , also, they said you could only include 24 images, I had over a hundred!

    Good Luck!

It's for a part time course in National college of art and design in Christ church.

Printing in different sizes is a good idea, hadn't thought of that.

lol... pending Fajitas.. I think your in luck with an answer. Im studying design there. My guess is, there are no specific rules. Whatever pleases the eye with a bit of originality, nice presentation.

I can tell you right now to print the pieces at whatever size they will look best at for NCAD,its not always about the picture but how you present it..

    That includes what borders,paper etc....

(but dont worry that much, you are goin there to learn this but do put some taught into it)

Thanks for that, I"ll work on the presentation as well. Better get started on the printing and seeing what works best.

    Thanks for your help.
