PS2 and PS3 are different mainly because of what they are able to do.
A PS2 is a games console and plays DVDs and CDs
A PS3 is a games console, plays Blu-Ray Dvds, DivX dvds, normal DVDS, CDs, and has an internet browser

    PS2 can play PS1 and PS2 games
depending on the model (you'd be looking for a 60GB hardrive in it), you're PS3 can play games for the above AND PS3 games.

    PS3 works in HD, PS2 doesn't.

    I haven't a clue about pixmania so i can't help you there.
But it doesn't really matter where you buy it.

PS2 will cost you 150 max.
PS3 could cost your around 400 at the moment.

    Hope this helps a bit

At this stage it's like the difference between a lada and a porche. If your husband is in to technology or video games and you bought him a PS2 at this point, you'd probably run the risk of a divorce. ;)
