I'm looking at a 25mm Kenko extension tubes and a ring flash for macro stuff. I have a caono 100mm 2.8 macro and I think the min focussing distance on that is 20cm. How much closer will I be able to focus with this tube?

    Thanks
    Paul

p.s. Dave O'Shea - I hold you totally responsible for this purchase :D

I'd buy the full set of Kenko extension tubes. Apparently ™Kenko Air is as good as ™Canon Air. Or so they say... ;). They come in 12mm, 20mm & 36mm. Plus, the full set is just a little more expensive than the Canon 25mm. Stacked, they give you 68mm extension in all. Don't forget you lose infinity focus when using these things. Plus you may have to resort to manual focusing and extensive use of the tripod. I've just invested in a Macro Focusing rail. At such close distances, hand held shots and focusing can be a bit of a pain. The flash is essential.

As far as focal distance is concerned..... Here is a calculator.

    Good luck with it. LOL

Thanks Dave. Unfortunately I couldn't make head nor tail of that calculator :o

on a related note, anyone recommend any good macro books? Father's day coming up, might as well get something I want instead of mugs/socks/jocks/etc...
