I hope to book a weekend away this coming one to go to either of the above. My passport is out of date in August 08. I rang the Passport Office to see if this is a problem. The person there said "You SHOULD be ok". Should I take it that it is going to be OK? or would I be better to go to Edinburgh (another choice), where even a drivers licence would do!!

I don't want to find myself stuck out in the Czech Republic either over some probably very valid rule!!

    Would appreicate any advice?

I believe once your passport is valid for 90 days after you intend to leave, you should be ok.

Why not just renew your passport early?

Well have been on a short break. No problem about passport. Just a reminder or two that it needs to be renewed. Seemingly, it is at the discretion of passport control and the person you are dealing with at the time.

Getting it renewed this week for the US trip in September! And I just discovered from a working colleague today that prior to going to Spain you have to fill in details tantamount to a visa application before going to any part of this country. If you are booking online, the form has to be completed and sent back. The rules and regulations are constantly under revision regarding passports etc. and it is important that we keep up to speed with it. According to passport office these situations are movable feasts!:o

I don't think there'd ever be a problem travelling within the EU with a passport on its last legs, most countries that require visas, and many that don't for tourism will specify 6 month passport validity. If your ever in doubt, going to the countries embassy website visa section will usually detail what you need for entry in most circumstances.

I wish we'd kick the UK to the kerb and sign up to Shengen wholesale, wouldn't need a passport at all with EU then... although if UK stayed out you might need it going to Belfast
