How come this site is a lot less expensive??

Online retailer and owned by BT, which gives them huge purchasing power as well as negating the need for expensive high street locations.

They're perfectly fine to deal with, if a little slow with sending stuff out at times.

That's good to hear (well not about the delivery!). It works out at around €216 savings :D

So, about the camera, any opinons? Good, bad, not worth the money etc

The question should be why is the shop so expensive......

As for the camera, the key is "Waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and crushproof", if your fiance is an outdoors type then he will probably get the benefit of it, if not then there is probably a better value camera for him.

Depends on what your intended will use it for but as Clint Eastwood might say "for a few dollars more" you would be in the entry level DSLR bracket - the cheapest i think i recall to have been about €370 for a body with kit lens. Even entry level in this category are fairly serious pieces of camera kit. That being said this is way different - it aint the kind of thing that you pop in your pocket on the way out to the pub for a nights drinking with a few snaps thrown in. It is however a hobby which can be added to over the years - new lens, flash, filters, more lens, flash, filters, change of camera body keeping lens etc..., etc..., There is great joy to those who get in on it.

Anyhow i just thought i'd mention it as a lot of people buy the 'in the pocket' point and shoots (and by the way many of them are very good) without being aware that to get a serious camera - even at entry level, wouldn't have cost them too much more. Again buyer beware - the joy of DSLR and the learning experience that goes with it won't be everyones cup of tea.

If interested, there are loads of threads on the subject and it's covered in the sticky's on the forum.

    Good luck with it. Cheers.

They are a grand camera and probably the best idea in terms of not worrying too much about a camera if it gets wet or drops it.
