Christening rates ???

    Maybe someone can help..???

    I have just been asked to photograph a christening for next Saturday completely out of the blue. I usually do work for a local newspaper covering local events etc. but haven't researched the christening market yet.

    I have asked the client to make out a list of photographs that they want taken i.e. God Parents, Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles, etc.. plus I'll be taking the usual ones in the church, water on baby's head, groups around font, etc..

    My dilemma is: How much to charge? :confused::confused::confused:
    What is the current thinking. Do you charge a flat fee for attending and then charge per print ordered afterwards or is there a set package that people provide and anything on top is extra?

    I know there is probably loads of variations in the packages but I'm wondering what would be a fair price for both me and the client?

    Any ideas......:confused::confused::confused::confused:

    I'd charge a flat rate for the day - Personally, I'd include a CD of the images to print at 6x8in*, and they can get back to me if they want bigger prints.

    How long do they expect you stay around, and where are you based?

    Many Thanks for the reply Fajitas!

    I am based around East Cork. I plan on spending about an hour at the church and about an hour or an hour and a half back at the house afterwards. They are only living about a mile from the church.

    I plan on putting a photo book together for them of the event. I have a price in mind for the whole package which I can PM to you if you want.

    Any prints wanted afterwards would be extra.

    If you want my opinion on the price, PM away!

    Photobooks can be a bit excessive for small events like this unless you're planning on staying for a full day, at least, that's what I've found. To make a photo book worthwhile, I'd be looking at about 40-50 pages minimum!

    I'd offer it as an extra but not as an end product on it's own - You could make as much money from a few print sales ;)
