I have my own set up through Eircom was'nt too hard but i was trying to do my little cousins earlier who has NTL, my Uncle knows nothing about computers and someone set his internet up so he does'nt know how to get his WEP key, i tried to ISP into the internet explorer to open the router like we can do with Eircom but that does'nt work.
Also the scan was only coming up with names for the neighbours on both sides and not his own box in that room any idea's on this?
Seems to be a differant kettle of fish setting up the PSN on NTL then on Eircom...

He probably has a Netgear router, all of the info on how to log onto it is printed on the back of the router, ie: IP address. I am assuming the pc is connected via wireless.

Ya i rang up NTL and he said is it a NetGear box and i just said ya and he gave me a number to ring, but then i checked the box and it was a ''scientific ????''.... was'mt a netgear anyway, Uncle said that's what they got with the NTL when i asked was that a newer one. Would this box be the reason the PS3 was'nt picking it up during the scan??.

On your friends computer run a command prompt (go to run and type cmd) and enter ipconfig/all.
This will provide you with information about the internet connection.
Look for the Default Gateway, this is the address of the router.
Type this into your browser and you will be able to access your router for more info on routers/ports etc go to www.portforward.com .

I did that man, know the set up myself from doing it on my own(through Eircom though) and the default'' into the browser was'nt bringing up anything so i taught then it was differant for differant router boxes.

Just been having a think about it and remembered that i had actually seen the NTL boxes before in other peoples houses(they even have NTL on them and are similar design to the Netopia-Eircom boxes) and the box he has is nothing alike so that's probably why the PS3 was'nt picking it up and why i was'nt able to access the box through the P.C

Cheers for the help this thread prob' jigged my brain to think of that stuff, i'll have to tell him to ring NTL and get one of there boxes and call up when he has it!!
