A Golf but I'm Confused!!

Alright, i haven't been drinking:)..but I rented a car today and I was given a Golf, grand I thought. On the back it said TDI. While at home I was just having a look at it in detail. I noticed as I opened the petrol flap there was a sign saying to use Unleaded Fuel only...hmm I thought.
Anyway, as I opened up the bonnet i noticed the engine block read '1.4'!

Now sorry but is this a 1.4 TDI engine?? It's a '08 car.

Sorry if this sounds dumb...I will ring the rental company tomorrow to ask but can anyone shed any light on this until then?

it didn't say TSI did it? Did you put any fuel in?

nope, i just popped out to check again in case my eyes are deceiving me but no, not a TSI, it is a TDI.

i checked the VW website and i can't a 1.4 TDI! I feel so special:D

No, I didn't put any fuel in, don't worry about that!

er...what's the reg?

if it were a TDI, it would have it written on the engine? surely you know the difference in sound between petrol and diesel?
how far does the rev counter go up?

Cartell says it's a 1.4 PETROL. Seems amazing to think they put a TDi badge on by mistake??

I've just checked cartell myself and yes, what the feck like!!

Imagine if I was clueless (no smart remarks please!) and fired in 20 euro of diesel into it without checking those things.

I'm going to ring Enterprise first thing in the morning :mad:

Still though, for a 1.4 it's nippy.

happy in a way, have ye seen the price of diesel lately!

hilarious..maybe the rental company got it cheap because of the mess up...a dangerous thing though.

You wouldnt have been able to put diesel in it as the nozzle on deisel pumps is bigger than the petrol pumps.

Doesn't stop some people from doing it, not familiar with the car. we see it the odd time.

i'm aware of that alright but i worked with a girl who persisted and she managed to put diesel into her Yaris...she was so stubborn,ha ha, she paid for that expensive lesson:)

i've just checked 2 of my old number plates on cartell, got the make and models right, but a 6 door vw caddy and 1.3 d 88 corolla??? wtf?

reda the corolla wrong oops... but a 6 door caddy, it only had a passenger sliding door which makes it a 5 door..
