i know its been asked before whether they work in america or not (they dont!) but i was wondering if anyone whos been to germany has used their GHD successfully or do you need a converter/transformer? Actually, do they even use 3pin plugs?

Sorry about this. I googled but im not 100% sure.

Hi, I went to Germany on an exchange and the plugs have two prongs so you'll need an adapter.

yup you'll need an adapter but not a stepdown converter as they use the same voltage over there that we do.

Ok stupid question but why don't they work in America?

The electricity in America is 110 volts whereas in Ireland or Europe it is 220 volts.

If you plug in an irish electrical appliance into an American socket the appliance will not get enough current to work (maybe your GHD will heat up a little but not enough to work properly).

If you plug an american appliance in an irish socket it will get too much current and be destroyed.

^Yup. And I was told that if you get a converter it'd work but even then it didn't heat up at all let alone very little.

I was left with horrible hair for the time I was in America.

BUT I'm just after finding out from my friend that the cheap hair straighteners in Walmart are actually decent enough so if you're stuck, get them.
