No signal after being dropped.

I accidentally dropped my Sony Ericsson k810i from around 4 foot and it landed on its top right corner leaving a few scratches and a little dint. My problem now is that I cannot get a signal at all (well I got one for around 20 minutes earlier and all the texts that were built up were sent at the same time) and it now constantly reads either 'Emergency calls only' or 'No network coverage' and the signal bar is flat.

What can I do to get the signal back?

Edit: Btw I am on O2 pre pay and the phone is a SIM Free that I bought online last year.

Drop it again but make sure it lands on the bottom left corner!

I'm assuming you've turned it off and on again? You've tried switching between GSM / UMTS modes?

Sounds like the phone is busted from the fall. Have you tried another SIM in it in case your SIM is damaged or O2 is the problem?

Alternatively send it to www.mprc.ie with the receipt and tell them it has no signal. My phones got tonnes of knocks and bumps and they've fixed it twice - but the problems have never been directly related to the fall. They may also charge you to fix it if they deem the fault to be related to user damage. Have a look on their website for T&C if the handset is deemed to be user damaged.

It does sound like you're gonna have to pay to get it fixed though.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago (no signal, emergency calls only). It turned out to be the sim card was knackered. Brought it up to a vodafone shop and they replaced the card.

Try another sim card in your phone or test your simcard in another phone.

OP first thing to try is remove the sim, let the phone power down for a few seconds then reinsert.

There may be a SW glitch or the sim might have been knocked free.

If this does not work, repair is the only route. DO NOT inform the repair company you dropped it. It would then be classed as customer damage.

It may be anyway if the damage internally is obvious from abuse: Even so, you should chance your arm. :)

Okay I removed the SIM and replaced it with a brand new SIM but it still won't pick up any signal. I tried to updated the software online but it says that I have the most up-to-date software already installed (I installed it again anyway) but it still doesn't work.

I am nearly 100% sure that it was the fall and subsequent little dint on the top right corner of the phone that is causing the problem (maybe the aerial is under there?).

I guess I'll have to drop into MPRC tomorrow and see if they can fix it. Cheers for all your help.
