    Hi all,

I am considering my options; SKY or UPC MMDS. I have major moral issues with getting SKY ... Rupert Murdoch is evil isn't he ? Although I hear the UPC MMDS is very poor ... bad performance of menus and dodgy reception ? Is this still the case? has a new digibox come along to resolve these issues?

My 32" inch LCD looks crap with terrestrial broadcasts, is there a lesser of these two evils ... ?

Rupert Murdoch's morality doesn't really much come into it.

UPC has to pay sky for some channels.
Sky is run by his son.
I doubt R.M. is any more lacking in morals than any arbitary CEO. I've no information on his morality vs. CEO of Liberty Media/Global/UPC etc.

Satellite has free channels, HD and higher bit rate for BBC/RTE.

UPC has two MMDS systems. Ex NTL area all digital using DVB-c and ex Chorus uses DVB-t and may have 1/2 the channels in some areas.

Satellite you own the receiver. When/if you cancel you continue to get the 45+ decent free channels and 70+ radio channels.

As far as is known R.M. has not been involved in Rendition, Genocide, Slavery, Destroying rain forests or cats. There is some Allegations of sharp buisness practice regarding other operators card systems. He may be responsible for Fox News. Thankfully that is a separate subscription and no longer FTA.

There may be evil people you buy stuff off everyday that own factories making cluster bombs or selling makeup to mime artists or Accordians to elderly terrorists musicians.

I believe I am in an ex-Chorus area, its this system I believe to be very poor ... although I have never heard of the number of channel it can deliver being inhibited !

Can any NTL (ex-Chorus) customer enlighten me, if its worth the €26 a month ?

This is what put me off Sky for so many years (He is particularly nasty Watty). None the less, Sky does offer more channels than UPC. I'd look into Freesat if satellite is an option.

If you morally object to Sky (understandable), then you should look at the BBC FreeSat service + an Aerial for RTE/TV3.

With BBC FreeSat you get 80 channels today, supposedly 200 channels by Christmas, all for free (just the upfront cost for the gear).

This service would seem much more compatible with your morals.

I have UPC MMDS, in general quite happy with it. There are the same issues with it as cable ie often dodgy due to weather, guide slow and Customer Care team not great. But the most annoying factor is that we get less channels than cable but still have to pay the same price!!
There are not many channels missing but for instance if you subscribe to Setanta, the channels you get are Setanta 1, 2 and golf, no NASN etc.
