Some Parents Shouldn't Have Kids

So I was sitting on the ledge outside the Spar in Eyre Square when this Traveler family sits beside me. There's 3 young kids (a boy and girl no older than 4 and a girl no older than 2) and a couple of month old baby strapped into the pram.

The youngest girl is constantly running into the shop. At one point running back out with a bag of taytos! The parents made no move whatsoever to stop her, only sending the eldest (?) daughter (probably around 5) into the shop to send her back. Granted the father brings the child back with the taytos but no more than 5 minutes later, the son runs in and takes a bar. Once again the parents do nothing but bring it back.

So in between the kids running away (at one point the mother didn't know where the youngest daughter was) and them stealing stuff, the parents did nothing to stop them. Had it been my child I would have severly scolded them, as these kids will probably be brought up not knowing the difference between right and wrong.

The worst parenting I see frequently is parents who don't strap their kids into cars - you commonly see young children standing at the back between the 2 front seats, or leaning against the airbag on the front passenger seat.

If people are dumb enough not to strap themselves in then thats the Darwin effect in action I guess. Not strapping their kids in should be a serious criminal offense though, its incredibly irresponsible parenting.

I've seen traveller kids steal a boot load (in a Ford Escort Esate) from a shop, the parents kept the till operator busy by paying for an item in coppers. The item was €130. The kids were stealing electronics and the parents just strolled out, got into the car with an entire boot load and drove off.

I said it to security and he wasn't bothered by it, just said "Ah sure they are barred in anyway".

its a great disguise as a title though - it will eventually descend into "travellers are scum" versus "travellers are not scum i know loads"

interesting how this discussion has gone this far, if it was happening in the 'Waterford City' forum it would have been locked by a certain over-controlling mod accompanied by several bans!
    ..anyway
