Get a councillor onto it and you may see the speed improve.

the file cant be opened by the planner until after 5 weeks, up till then any submission must be received, and generally any consulation reports are to be received...

then decision must be made between the 5th and the 8th week, but, depending on how busy the planning office is, it usually takes till the last week...

best thing to do is to check some recently granted applications and see how close to the decision date they were made....

As sydthebeat has said above- can't be decided earlier than 5 - that's statutory for the reasons he has outlined - luck is nothing to do with it. Councillor / TD / Taoiseach / President won't make any difference, and it's subject to your site notice being correct and in place on the date of inspection by the LA, so keep an eye on that. My experience is the same as sydthebeat, it's always the last week ...

its just annoying the whole summer will be gone waiting for an answer. there is already pp on the site for a house i just wanted to change the style of the house nothing major. the site plan everything else is the same. im afraid to get a councillor on it incase i jinx it or something haha.

You're probably as well off leaving it run its course soldier. If there's planning on it already the hard work is done for them. They just have to look at the house. You might claw back a week or so on it, but that's about it, and in the bigger scheme of things its not much use to you. What you could do during the down time is start looking at any parts of the build that you'll be taking care of yourself - are you using a contractor or building direct ?

the earliest i have gotton a decision is one week early, and that was for a domestic extension. for most one off housing or infill housing the earliest ive gotten is say on the friday when it is officially due on the folowing monday.
