how does adobe bridge tag photos?

I had a few folders of photos on my desktop so decided to test out photoshop bridge on my mac. i tagged various images as landscape, people, with tags for peoples names etc etc.

i then moved the folders to my archive. when i viewed the photos in bridge again, none of the tags were still ticked.

Does bridge rely on the photos staying in the one location?

I'm not sure but it may hold any tags/keywords in .xmp files that are not normally viewable. So if you select the files and move them you may leave the sidecar files behind.

I know Lightroom does it that way (unless you tell it not to).

Out of curiosity did you move them via Bridge or just drag and drop through Explorer?

drag and drop via finder ( mac's version of explorer). i was hoping it appended the tags to the end of the file. bugger it anyway.

It may well do, try both ways, via Bridge and then Via Finder after you add the tags.
I have a mac myself but I don't have anything other than Lightroom installed on it as regards photo software. Just use XP for that.

if you have Vista you would be better to tag them in that as it follows the file without a sidecar
