    Hi, forgive my ignorance:o BUT
    Is it possible to get Air traffic from knock airport on a sw radio with frequencys available on it from 5.850 to 17.900mhz.

    If not what do I need to get it, been listening to some atc online soo cool..


    I'm new to all this, but hell is it interestin, I think I could get hooked:D

    HF airband was bangin in last nite...

    6604 USB is New York Volmet

    6628 USB is Gander Radio in Canada

    6617 USB (I think) is another radio centre

    I have a few others which I'll post later to get you started. I use about 60ft of wire into a MFJ tuner. Works quite well.

    Whats the make/model of your reciever?

    We are closer to Gander than to Southern Italy.

    If you listen to the 108 -- 137MHz AM you will here them give main and alternate HF frequency for transatlantic and ask them to test selcall. Then you can re-tune and hear the test. Then you also know working frequencies for that day/night.

    Signals are strong again tonite/this morning. Good advice from Watty to listen on VHF first to get the HF freqs or vice versa.

    oh jas-us lads I've nothin hi tec here!!:eek:

    I have a small silvercrest radio (bought in lidl about €18) with fm, mw, sw, lw on it and it has a regular adjustable ariel on it. Theres a button also at the side which can be pointed to DX or LX SW Sen.. Whats This?

    I'll check out the stations mentioned and get back to ye! AHHH vhf would be on the tele right?

    Would ye have any idea whether I could get knock airport atc on it? I get shannon on the web here

    DX = Distance. Perhaps an attenuator off or preamp on.
    LX = Local. Perhaps an attenuator on or preamp off.

    If using an external aerial or interference from a strong station put it to "LX" position.

    You need AM VHF 108 to 137MHz for VHF air band (VHF radio is 88 to 108 and FM).
    You need SSB (USB) for Marine and Air HF, the SW (HF) on most of those radios is only AM

    AM, FM, SSB(USB,LSB), CW, RTTY etc are all Analogue modulation types possible on any band. Ordinary Domestic broadcast is AM on LW, MW and SW (HF) and FM on VHF.

    Digital modes are DRM, DAB, DVB, PSK etc...
