Sony Bravia LCD quirk..

    Hey,

I have a Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV and it works very well, I've had it about 6 months now.

Recently I discovered something I thought was a problem with it, but now I don't think it actually is. So I thought I would post it here more as a tip or maybe a piece of information.

Basically I thought there was a problem with the TV infrared receiver or the remote control that had come with it. I noticed the remote started to seem unresponsive. Changing the batteries did not work. I then replaced the remote and that seemed to work, until last week until it started to give problems.

What worried me is that I could see the light on the front of the TV was not flickering at all. Usually when it receives the remote signal, you can see it blink each time you press a button on the remote. This had me worried that it was some sort of problem with the TV itself.

Anyway I searched online and noticed a post about having items near the infrared receiver on the TV. Now there was nothing blocking my infrared receiver at all, in fact immediately in front of it and about a foot to the left and right were completely clear.

I had some dvds stacked to the sides so I decided to move them out of the way and immediately, the remote began to work, as did the old one!

I'm guessing there must have been some weird sort of issue with the signal being reflected or something, I don't know.

So if you experience your remote not working even after changing the batteries, a fast and free check is to move any clutter or anything near the front of your TV away from the infrared receiver to see if that helps.

What model do you have? Even though the light maybe in the centre of the TV the remote sensor is usually on the far right on the new Sony LCDs so if that was blocked you would have problems.

I didn't know the sensor was there. The TV I have is a Sony Bravia 32" LCD KDL-32D3000 or 32D3010.

Ya on the very lower right of the TV there is a sensor with a R logo beside it.

Aye, you are right (pun intended).

I just checked and sure enough on the right hand side there is a little 'R' logo and beside it, a little circular shaped panel. That was completely obscured by dvd's a few months ago which makes me surprised it worked for so long.
