Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's great, but I think the 4s its been getting are a little harsh. I rented it there over the weekend and played it through in one six hour sitting, and yes a lot of the issues raised in reviews are obviously true, but it was a fun enough six hours. I'd say the game is a solid 6, at the least a 5.5. Definitely more than a 4.

I think the 4 scores are unfair to it, and reflect more the reviewers' sense of disappointed high expectations than actual game quality. I went into it expecting it to be woefully abysmal, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Yes, the AI is from time to time moronic, yes your Mantel squad mates are just plain unlikable (not in a narratively clever way, just terrible terrible character design), and oh God yes *that* flame thrower effect has got to be seen to be believed. In fairness though, flame throwers actually feature in the game for about 15 minutes, so the effect isn't a game-breaker.

The biggest problems with the game are A) its far far too easy, and B) they really did absolutely nothing worthwile with the story -
I actually think they were extremely misleading in their promotional material as far as the story is concerned. Those ad shots of the two Mantel troopers in a deserted city environment, or the shots of the drop ships against the futuristic city scape - none of that appears in the game in any shape or form. The entire game takes place in the poxy south American jungle, and the plot is very dissatisying - involving the rebels' fight against locally deployed Mantel forces and no mention of the bigger picture. When you win it's just hollow, cos you know well you've defeated Mantel in this backwater jungle, but they still pretty much control the planet.

Anyway, in short, it's good for a few hours' rental. If I payed 60 odd quid for it I'd be seriously p1ssed, as it works out at over 10 euro an hour, but its good enough fun while it lasts and worth a short rental at least.

It came out a year too late, nothings really grond breaking, that being said, its not that bad. Online is pretty good

I think it's main problem is that it is a mediocre fps released during a time when some of the best FPS games in a long time have come out. With Bioshock, CoD4 and Orange Box available among others Haze is just totally irrelevant when you can get so much more for your 60 stingers. I think thats why reviewers have been marking it low, unless it really is bad.

The PS3 is becoming a disappointment - if it wasn't for the blu ray player, I'd have moth balled mine by now. Apart from COD4 (which I could have gotten for my pc anyway), the only good game for it so far was Uncharted. The rest of the overhyped must have games are major letdowns - Turok and Haze in particular.

Will Resistance 2, Killzone and Aliens Colonial Marines (can't wait:eek:) turn things round for the PS3? They better have as it needs quality games that last more than 5-6 hours in length, are next gen, i.e. 1080p and make you want to replay them.

Dave you should have a look at review average sites like metacritic and gamerankings before you shell your hard earned cash out on games like Haze and Turok.

I generally dont think the PS3 has had a bad line up of exclusive games, I just think the competition for quality software is much tougher than Sony has ever had coming from the other Two systems.

Yeah I agree that the critics sites that you mention can be useful but with the dearth of good games for the PS3 I am getting fairly desperate to play a good game. Hell my old PS2 had so many great games to choose from but the PS3 is sadly lacking. Like my earlier post said, its now an almost 100% blu ray movie player as the games for it are big time, major league let downs.

Who the fcuk is doing quality control on these games before they are released - "Helen Keller"?

The brother was telling me yesterday that Bad Company was amazing - even better than COD4 (sacriligious I know) so I'll download the demo to see what the un-hype (i.e. I've heard nothing about this game so maybe thats a good thing) is about.

As for Haze, the story is pathetic - don't bother buying it. Rent it if you must as you can get through it in one evening.
