Of course the 3000miles and 1000 miles radius aren't the exact distances, they rounded the numbers, so i guess the island has to be somewhere in the smallest circle..

but this made me think of the planetary grid system; http://users.pandora.be/wouterhagens...lsgrid_uk.html

so it could be located somewhere near points 14 or 28

and if the island has moved before, it could also explain the little nigerian drug plane (the island was point 22 or 23)
and tunisia (where ben landed) is very close to point nr. 20..
But now its where the island is and who they are after encountering on this new island that's making their life so bad

Thats what puzzles me, how could he have ensured he would have landed on dry land?

Was thinking this myself. Is it not possible that the Island could plonk itself in the middle of New York? Maybe he felt it was a risk worth taking, but as the Island has been moved before (maybe even a fair few times) the more times you move it, the greater the chances you are of fcuking up.

I guess one answer could be that, as hinted at from the begining, the Island isn't just an Island, but seems to have a will of it's own, and an element of control (i.e. preventing Michael from killing himself). Maybe it can control, to a certain degree, where it is moved to?

Pretty weak I know, but they need some sort of reason, as I don't think Ben would have willy nilly just moved it, not knowing that it couldn't end up in an inhabited area.

Well one of the theories knocking about is that the island does not move in space, but moves in time, which gives the illusion that it has disappeared (like the rabbit thing Edgar Halliwax spoke about in The Orchid orientation video).

I think what doctor evil is talking about is how could Ben insure that he ended up on dry land, as it seems definite that he was bound to move in space (and, evidently, in time). In other words, he could have just appeared in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, rather than the desert.

Having seen polar bears with Dharma logos around their necks wind up in the desert in Tunisia, Ben might well have known that that's where he would end up. Plus, he seemed to have known the hotel in the desert-town, and or/been there before.

The real location of the island in reality is:
    Oahu, Hawaii
which most already know. Check the tour of the island. http://www.lostvirtualtour.com/

Yes but, at the end of the episode, they were heading for Membata, which was 3000 miles away, and then get the closest to the Sydney, LA route and the island has to be within the smaller circle.
