Hi Can anyone help me with this???
I have a Terrano Jeep 1996, I bought this into the Country in 2005, from Spain! so it has Spanish Reg at moment! I would like to now put it onto Irish Plates,, and make it Commercial so will have to remove back seats, ect....
Please note, the jeep has not been on the road! since 2005, as I have a Irish car to use..
I am wondering, what these new VRt rates will be, for my situation?? Do I have to do all of this before 1st July! to save money, or does it matter!! I have read, several bits on the Net,, but some are quite confusing!!
So any help on this would be grateful. Thanks.

if you register it as a commercial then it'll be 50 euro... light commercials...and that 4x4 would probably make it into that category are only charged 50. so ifyou're going to use it as a commercial take the seats out now so you'll be ready. they'll possibly want you to take it to your local vrt office to show it to them

The new VRT rates don't apply to commercial vehicles, private only.

there's a few threads in the main motors forum about 'commercialising' a car/jeep for work use, inc. a lot of advice on how best to do things.

afaik, I'm pretty sure just taking out the back seats isn't enough, you have to make other modifications to the rear windows and i think also the seatbelt mounting points. could be wrong, but you really need to check and make sure it's been done properly to avoid headaches.

as i said, all the info is there for you, you'll just have to look it up. ;)

I converted my pajero from passenger to commercial a year ago. You have to remove the seats and seat belts and put in a false floor. It has to be a metal floor of welded construction, welded in. I bolted mine in in case I ever wanted to take it out to access wiring and the like, but put a few small beads on the top to comply.

The seat belt mountings are supposed to be welded up too, but I got away with sticking plastic circles over the bolt holes in the trim, who can say they aren't welded if they can't be seen :p

According to them the glass must be removed and replaced with a metal or polymer material, but thats just rubbish. They are supposed to be blacked out so you can't see out, ie: carpet stuck over the glass, but again I cheated and put balck limo tint on the windows, which is handy cos you can see out of them.

I brought it to the local tax office and a girl came out to check it, then gave me my papers. To be honest they just want to make sure that you wount go home and put the seats back in, but have commercial tax and insurance benefits. They weren't to concerned with the deatils of how it was done, as long as it was permanent.

floor pan doesnt need to be done ive only just finished a conversion all you need to do is remove seats and seat belts and plug up the holes with a metal putty.
get a weight docket a garda form to say it will be used for commercial reasons the tax office needs to see them.
