Problem with a Board of Management?

Am wondering if anyone out there has had experienced problems with Boards of Management. We have an ongoing issue with (name of School removed) BOM where our senior infants child reported an assault by her teacher. We complained to the Principal and the BOM and the complaint came back "not substantiated", however the complaint was referred to the Gardai and went to the DPP. We find this extraordinary and wish to know if anyone else out there has suffered a similar problem. :(

Something similar happend to a friend of mine (not in Swords).

The case was refered to the Gaurds and then to the DPP.

The BOM said there was no evidence, even though other kids in the class what happened, and just dragged the parents to meeting after meeting, always at about 3pm so the parents would have to take time off work to resolve the issue.
The parents hired a lawyer to sort things out for them and it's still on going at the moment, so I can't say what the out come will be.

    Good luck and stay strong.

I have removed the name of the school as the OP states the matter has been refered to the Gardai and on to the DPP.

It is not appropriate to name the school under these circumstances.

Bit late to be removing the names given that some people already viewed the original post with its accompanying identifying details Not your fault I know but I'd be pretty p!ssed if I was the teacher involved (or it was my friend / relative) to be honest. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. Am I the only one who smells a troll given the time the OP posted?

OP my son was physically assaulted by a male teacher 3 years ago when he was 9 years old. It had happened 4 times before it came to our attention. There were other pupils assaulted by the same teacher. We are in no doubts that the assaults happened.

The principal and BOM carried out their own "investigation" yet the BOM never met with us and we got nothing but dogs abuse and some very nasty threats from the principal. The gardai believed us and a file was sent to the DPP.

I don't see why the time of the OP's posting would even point to a troll. I'd be pretty p!ssed if a family member was a teacher and were helping cover up allegations of child abuse.

I never said that I condone a cover up; I just believe that people are innocent until proven guilty. And I don't think that a public forum is the right place to name the teacher and school in question until the full story, from both sides, has been established.

    Hi there,
I appreciate your comment. We have given the BOM many chances to investigate this but they simply were not interested. They should have used the Child First Guideines but chosse not to and instead they got teachers who depend on the. As well the teacher (whose name I did not disclose) has a record of complaints at this school. My reason for starting this forum is simply to highlight the dangers BOM become faced with. They are mostly made of of very well-meaning people and notwithstanding the situation we are in I have sympathy for them. They are simply buffers for the Department of Education and that is what I want highlighted. Also the BOM ignored our child's GP's letters as a result of the alleged assault. They have been extremely unfair. Thansk again for your posting.

I'm not at all happy with the fact that on a bank holiday weekend in the middle of the morning this turns up, not to mention that you have named names. You specifically registered to do this.

You're banned for the safety of this forum.

If you have a problem with the BOM contact the DoE by way of an appeal, this is done frequently and you dont have to come here to tell us about it. The DoE, whilst wishing to keep local managment decisions local will review the entire file. Any suspecions of male fides will be acted upon. If you are unhappy there, and you think comething is going on, you can Judically Review the DoE decision.

You can also make a Data Protection Act Request for the entire file from the school, and if they do not comply you can go to the Data Protection Commissioner for redress.

If you have a problem with the ban go to help desk where higher authority than me can help you back if you wish.

    Locked.

EDIT: Exchange of PM's done with poster and I'm satisified OP is not a Troll, so I'm willing to retract the late night posting bit..... but Min ban stays. Scheduled in for removal at appropriate time.
