Where are there working fixed gatso cameras left?

Noticed this last night, the Gatso at Tallaght on the M50 is missing its head now. The two on the Northern Cross are inoperative (think the counter-clock-bound is gone actually), the one on the N4 at the Spa Hotel is inoperative, the one north of Lusk on the R132 is headless...

I can only think of the one at Coolquay on the former N2 and the one at Collon on the N1 as possibly still in operation.

Have the state/guards given up entirely on them?

I've passed most of the Dublin ones recently and none are working. Passed the one on the M1 between Drogheda and Dundalk today and it isn't working either.

Don't ask how, I just know;)

As a result of these cameras being out of action, road deaths have skyrocketed.

Oh no, they're actually the lowest in years! Funny that.

Noticed on firday the GATSO before the N4 slip road @ the end of the toll head is off as well. It was turned off for months anyway

    I can confirm that:

Northbound M50 Camera @ Airport = Turned on but never seen it flash
GATSO @ Toll = Missing But turned off for months
Tallaght = Turned on but missing now.
Lucan N4 = Turned off for months now.
Drogheda (Turn off to Julianstown) = Turned off for months now (Previously Active with film)
    N3 = Burnt for a while now.

Not sure you're right about that one. Was travelling north last Saturday week(24th) and saw it flash twice on the Southbound side.

Within the past month I saw the Gardai working on the one southbound on the M1 at Dunleer. Few days later I spotted some dudes shifting the traffic monitoring cameras on the northbound side to watch the gatso with a guy checking with a monitor to make sure it was in position.

I presume your talking about the Camera before Heuston Station.

Personally I reckon the state is letting the number of detections drop so that:

    1. People start speeding again, as the rules are not enforced

    2. Fianna Fáil swing voters are going to be high-horse pleased when the number of detections skyrockets when the private contractors start up

    3. Said contracters make lots of money for said govt led by said party and get to keep their contract

    4. Other high-horse morons who actually believe the one-sided "speeding kills all!!!!" rubbish move from their respective political camps into Fianna Fáil

It's a stupid, ignorant, cold-blooded and deliberate move. And if Fine Gael were in power for the last 10 years, they'd probably do the same. All political parties get this callous when unopposed for so long

Maybe they have moved it to realistic places where accidents actually happen... like the backroads around the capital ?

Are the N4 and the M50 cameras not de-activated due to the road-works?

Is this definitely off? I was over the speed limit going past it this morning due to a small incident.

There's no lines in the inside lane, for one thing. Can't have the double-lock proof you were speeding without them.

And the local rag reported it as being turned off.

IT is off passed yesterday and it doesn't set off my radar detector anymore (hasn't for a while now)

someone told me a few years back when I was living in England that the camera's only worked when the two small holes in the back were uncovered and I was dumb enough to test it.

I was wrong and got sent a fine and some points with a picture of me and 3 mates in the car all gawking out the back window at it as it flashed with a bad case of red-eye making it blindingly obvious what we were up to (and that I wasn't watching where I was going).

at the time it was also a widely held belief that if you told them you couldn't remember who was driving that day that they wouldn't prosecute and would let you off (if they believed you) because technically they could be prosecuting an innocent person, but I couldn't even get away with that one. :o

Also, in the last couple of months I've seen the one just before the ross cross junction on the N3 flashing someone coming the other way and I've also been caught myself (letter & fine etc.) just after overtaking someone at 4am by the one on the N2 at the top of the hill between the Snailbox & Ashbourne.

Any way of confirming this? I haven't seen any sign of them down that way yet.

    Since when?

<pedant> they are pedestrian lights, not traffic lights </pedant>
