I'm travelling to New York soon with a short (approx 1hr 40mins) changeover in Amsterdam. I'm flying with Aerlingus from Dublin airport to Amsterdam and then flying with Northwest Airlines from Amsterdam to JFK. As this is the first time I have flown this way i have a couple of questions I would like some help with.
Firstly I would like to know if anybody has flown this route before and if possible I would like to know how you found the short stopover and also if luggage is checked straight through or do you have to collect it in Amsterdam and check it in again? If this is the case would taking just hand luggage be better? Comming home it wont be a problem as there is a longer changeover but going out we will be pretty pushed for time:eek:
Secondly does anybody know when you go through customs and immigration? Is that done in JFK or Amsterdam? I'm hoping JFK as again we will be pretty pressed for time!
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post :)

    Hey rosepettal23,

have never done the route by afaik ..... amsterdam is pretty good regarding luggage and if ur flying NWA as I suspect you should be fine.

Customs/Immigration/Pre-clearance can only be done in dublin/shannon for direct flights so I'm afraid you'll have to to that on that on the JFK side but with the NWA flights getting in a bit later it should be quiet by then.

Hope that was of some help,

    D

You'll have plenty of time. Schiphol is pretty good for connections and baggage transfer is normally pretty reliable.

You'll clear customs and immigration in New York.

You'll actually be flying a KLM plane and flight to New York, it's just a codeshare with Northwest :)

hate to jump in but . . . . . nwa do fly ams to jfk using 757s so it is actually possibly that she is flying with NWA

They operate to Newark, not JFK :)

JFK flights are KLM operated :)
