The French government has unveiled the first parts of a plan to make broadband services available to everyone in the country by 2012. The targets were agreed in a cabinet meeting, and Eric Besson, minister for the digital economy, is expected to present a more detailed plan before the end of July. The proposals target fixed and mobile broadband access for all inhabitants by 2012, the switch to all-digital TV by the end of 2011, development of mobile TV, over 4 million French with access to fibre-optic broadband by 2010, encouraging the development of very high-bandwidth mobile services and measures for helping disabled people access digital services. The government also hopes to stimulate the creation of digital content, including software and video games, for which the prime minister has just announced support.

Jeez haven't our shower being telling us that this is against EU regulations?

Well done to France for a relatively forward looking strategy, at least they are thinking forward and ensuring that everyone will have access to broadband

It's not against regs if you help ALL the operators to do it. Our lot looking for excuses to spend the money elsewhere.
