Better bang for the buck

8800GS is best for bang for buck at €92, especially if your on a sub 22" monitor

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=345164

8800gs for €90 will play Cod4, Bioshock and every other game besides Crysis ( which was made to sell video cards ) at high settings perfectly, it will play Crysis at medium settings fine..

Below is a good chart for video card performance

    At lower resolutions ( 1280 by 1024 ) the 8800gs is a little beast

9600gt is better if you want AA at higher resolutions but it will get slower (8800gs has 33% steam processors more than 9600gt )
as games use more complex shader.

The only game that eats up more than 384 megs of vram are.....

Crysis @ 1920x1200 high settings and WIC @ 1600x1200 and above especially with AA.

The 8800gs you got overclocks like a dream, you should be able to get from 550/1600 to 700/2000 no problem, 30% overclock

    How big is your monitor?

Here it is against the almost twice as expensive 8800gt, only 20% slower overall, with no overclocking

Curious, Peats at least used to stock Galaxy, but now I can't find anything from them on Peats, Komplett, Overclockers etc.

Hey the computer i bought for my bro is this one here http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspndt_530?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1

I haven't picked it up yet , it doesn't have a 6 pin pci-e , the adapters require two molex power connectors, i've asked the guy if there are two free but he hasn't replied, might be away for the weekend, I'm fearing the worst though, do dells take standard power supplies, could I just swap it out ?

You will need a sata 2 molex adapter, to use your free sata cables and convert them to pci e with the adapter, I have put in a HD3850, 9600gt and 7950GT into dell's ( Vostro/ Inspirion ) this way..

    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=20580

A few adapters and shipping ( takes just over a week ) will set you back €15 or something

Yeah they take standard size psu's, I put this Corsair psu into a Vostro 200 ( put a 8800gtx into it ), which I got for €30 chepear on hmw, go by those dimensions and it should be fine..

Plenty of decent psu's on adverts for cheap, if you get the adapter you dont need one though..

ok looking online it's what I thought, no bloody molex connectors, I ordered a Dell Silencer 470 from amazon.com marketplace, estimated delivery date is 16 june - 1 july, anyone know if a bog standard power supply will fir and i could cancel this one and order off komplett ?

theres two spare sata power connectors so I could go with the adaptors but do you think the supply would be powerfull enough ? I'd hate to give him a pc that shuts off while he's gaming that would be a major bummer, would it be safer to go with that power supply you linked ?

Power supply in the Dell is fine, it can a card as powerful as a 8800gt no problem, I only got a new psu because the 8800gtx, 2 optical drives, 2 hard drives, sound card and external network adapter would have been a bit too much for it...

5 euro for the adaptors and 17 for shipping lol but still a lot cheaper than a new powersupply
