Satellite to pickup German stations

Hi, I know pretty much zero about satellite TV so there's gonna be some dumbass questions in this thread no doubt...I did read the FAQ thread but it doesn't give much about the basic fundamentals which I probably need to get started on figuring this stuff out (e.g. you need XXX type of dish, connected to YYY type of receiver by ZZZ type of cable, then you do setup by doing AAA).

My mam lives in Dublin and has an interest in German TV as she recently learned the language and wants to be able to watch German TV stations and listen to German radio (through the TV will be fine). It's a detached house and I reckon the back garden is roughly west facing if that makes a difference?

If it costs more than a couple of hundred euros to do it, she'll knock the idea on the head - would it be possible to get her a satellite that would achieve the above quite cheaply? That'd be sweet if so and any additional Irish/Uk channels would be a bonus - she can keep just using the basic NTL cable for normal TV viewing.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions

Pick up a 80cm dish with a multiple lnb holder, 2 lnbs & DiSEqc switch

Align your dish to Astra 1 (German- RTL, etc) & Astra 2 (UK -bbc etc)

For the Irish you need'll a UHF aerial and you could use a TV/SAT combiner to combines both signals and run it down the same cable, then use another TV/SAT combiner to break them back up.

pick up a cheap kit from maplins for about 150. This will give you lots of German TV channels.

as poster above says, you need to point dish at 19 degrees east of south. thats called the Astra 1 satellite. dish needs be pointed in the general direction of the sun at noon.
