Hey I was hoping to do this marathon that is on in Dublin. I rang up the office and asked them where to get some running gear as I'm from the states and haven't run since arriving here almost a year ago.

I went into the one in Blanchardstown but it wasn't a running store really. The guys in there didn't really know much about running and were just recommending asics, "Any asics shoe will work for the marathon but if you want to do a really fast time the Kinsei was the best option".

I know enough about running to know this wasn't great advice I've done the New York marathon and was wondering was there anywhere in Ireland (I'm a sales rep on the road so anywhere in Ireland) that actually stock more than Asics.

There's a few good running stores around the country where they know what marathon shoe will suit you best. My area is Wicklow, so I'll give you www.amphibianking.ie in Bray, they do gait analysis; and Avondale Sports in Rathdrum, run by Bill Porter who knows his running. You're well advised to stay away from the chain stores, which are akin to the Sports Authority in the States ("Do you do marathon trainers?", "Sure, what color you looking for?").

    Hi,

Lifestyle/marathon etc. tend to be what I would call "sports fashion" shops rather than actual sports shops per se.

If you really do travel all round Ireland John Buckley sports in Cork is a great spot for really good running gear and advice, you can buy on-line http://www.johnbuckleysports.com/ or call in and meet John.

    In Waterford try Alfie Hales.

There's plenty of great shops in Dublin too but it's years since I lived there so I won't confuse the issue by giving you bad directions or out of date advice, some of the others on here will set you right - good luck.

I agree with the above, Amphibian King are great, very helpful as I need a structerd shoe. There's a new shop on Parnell Street, Dublin too - Runways, the guys know their stuff and there's a threadmill available to try out the shoes. Arnotts is good for running clothing too. Good luck - see you at the start ;)
