Some rumours gathering steam - word has it that the next firmware update, 2.4, will include lots of things we've been waiting a long time for. Chiefly, in-game XMB access with friends messaging, custom soundtrack support (but will still require 'hooks' in the game), and trophies.

Was originally reported here, but there are now videos purporting to show the in-game XMB here, and supposedly they are legit.

It shows the full xmb in game, but some functionality won't work in-game obviously.

The screenshot there shows the trophy stuff more clearly.

I'd practically given up on getting in-game messaging, so this will be pretty neat if true.

It's apparently coming very soon. I'm guessing before MGS4.
