The only thing good about it is its internet browser, other than that its a gimmick. Its just one of those ''COOL'' things to buy just like most of apples products e.g IPOD!

 Thats why I posted in comp/tech, its not a phone i posted about, its the software, which completely open source, makes it more appealing. I'm changing the thread title.

But its such an effort to get the iphone to do what better phones do as standard.

What makes the iphone so cool is not what it does, but how it does it. and i'll admit it does look great.....but its not a great phone. thats why i have an n95 and an ipod touch. the ipod for web browsing, and the 95 for everything else.

I thought you of all people would see through the iHype, Viri?

i'd kill for a macbook pro though

    • No Games < - not true........ Apple has already stated that it will not allow third parties to make software for the device - Still Available!
    • No Instant Messaging < - not true......... OK, ya, you have iChat, sms rates - Wrong! Can run msn etc

    • No One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones) - So?........ Why not, all ipods have em - Show me where I can plug an ordinary headset etc into a SE K800i or whatever
    • No 3G - On the way........ But not here yet, should've been included IMO- and it will be, whats the issue. We should have hovercars, don't have those yet either.

Seriously. Any time I've seen anyone knock the iPhone, they never know what they are talking about. Use one, THEN make assumptions/claims. But if you're just reiterating incorrect blurb you stole from someone else, then check your facts.

So you carry two things around with you, when one will do? Champion. If you're carrying around an N95 AND an ipod touch (which is an iphone without phone functionality, btw) then... I don't know what to tell you. But you know I'll tell you anyway :P

Its not iHype. I own one. I have done since December. I've had lots of phones, and this is the best one yet. </iRage>

    That's genuinely impressive stuff.
That compass integration with Google maps is very cool. :)

By all accounts this could be on some HTC devices before the end of the year.

Wow, I appear to have hit a raw nerve there.

Have you ever actually used and iPhone? Not everybody wants the features you list above. I certainly don't.

As for Android, there are striking similarities between it and the iPhone.

the zooming on the webpages, doesn't look as good as the iphone, it looks like a fixed zoom setting, and will be interesting to see what text input is like. thing about the iphone/itouch is the interface and input method is very good, its not perfect but better than most small devices

    And there's the point.

If I take off my iPhone blinkers for a moment, I've used a number of smarphones, including the N95.

For web browsing and mp3/video playing simply nothing compares. These are the two key features of a phone I want, everything else is a bonus.

Android certainly appears to come close to the iPhone, which in itself isn't a bad thing. But then of course, with version 2.0 of the iPhone, plus the 3G version coming, who knows what Apple have in store?

Totally agree. The iphone is good at how it does things and not what it does.

Everyone has to remember that the iPhone was designed for the U.S. Market and any other countries that got it was a bonus. This is the reason why alot of the features are not present on a standard iPhone. Remember folks that the iPhone gained a lot of hype because of its revolutionary interface and its ease of use. It is supposed to be a "Smartphone" that anyone can pick up and use and its also fairly durable to boot.

Not a feature packed handset that can do anything but not featureless either and make what it does very easy. Anyhow, this is a thread about android and not mac's mobile OSX for the iPhone or the iPhone. Lets try to keep it on topic.

Android as someone has already stated, is not a phone but an operating system. Like symbian and windows mobile. It will be available on a range of handsets

One device won't do, if the iPhone did everything the n95 did plus what it already does, I would happily champion it. But it doesn't, and I use one every day, I sell them. I use two devices cos I need two devices. The phone part of the iPhone simply lets it down, and that fact can't be disputed, and that why I own a touch (I'm using it now to post and surf) I'm guessing, but it looks like most of your argumets are based on a jailbroken iPhone ( and if you have one since dec, it must be) why should I have to hack a new device to do what most high spec phone do as standard?

Anyway back on topic, I can't view the video as the iphone doesn't support embedded video. D'oh!
Still, you've come a long way since your first motorola back in 98 dearie!

All of which will no doubt be able to pick and choose what features they want to include on their phones, which will be further limited by the networks again as per usual. Its a nice idea that I would like to see come to fruition as Google intent, but I doubt it.

Because then it does more than most high spec phones do as standard.

Quiet you, it was better than your phone in 98 (i.e none)

Hmm, tell me what a jailbroken iphone does better than a standard n95, not the execution of the function, the function itself. IMO hacking an iPhone simply brings it closer to my standards!

No. This I'm not taking this thread any further off topic. The important phrase you used is "IMO'". Your opinion of the iPhone doesn't matter. The facts do. Use a jailbroken iPhone, get all the apps available that do all the things you say the iPhone doesn't do,Then form an opinion based on that.

The only thing really is the N95 has 5mp camera with flash, GPS, and upgradeable ram. None of these things are particularly important to me.

Why not? It's not like you can't buy unlocked vanilla handsets. Even the likes of Vodafone are gradually screwing less and less with the phones they sell.

    .

You've just proven my point for me, I'll have my third party apps and an intact warranty on my 95 thanks.

See you for round two, n96 v 3g iPhone!

Hopefully but the chance of a network taking android enabled handsets up is fairly slim I would say as it seems to opensource and the networks will want something lockable and only unlockable by the network or the manufacturer. Or at least make it out of the reach of the average joe without an enquiry,
