    if I got this and threw in an 8800 GT or similar quality card would it be ok for playing standard modern games ?

    What price?

    Its ok, but add another 2Gb ram to it later, don't get it from dell cos they'll rip You off. Make sure it takes a full-size gpu, some dell's don't, hopefully someone else will post bout that.

    theres one goin on adverts for 380, could probably knock it down a bit, 60 extra for a 17 inch monitor
