Anyone got the Canon 1.4 x EF extender?

Hi all,
I seem to remember one or two people around here having the above item.
I'm aware it will slow AF down and lose you a stop of light and marginally degrade IQ.

Anyone have strong opinions on it one way or the other?

i have one

its awful on my 70-200L

but a lot better on the 400L, although i loose autofocus image is still useable

I have one and couldn't tell the difference except for the 1 stop on my 70-200L f/4
Image quality was basically the same, lot's of reading on sites b4 I purchased.

I have a 1.4 extender. Its ok on my 70-200mm f2.8.

I've one on order. I'll probably use it with my 300mm f/2.8 or the 70-200mm f/2.8. It should give me extra reach, and from reading, it won't negatively effect the images much at all.

Then for a test, I want to try - 300mm f/2.8 with 2x extender and with 1.4x extender. That should give me 840mm f/8. Might work for wildlife.

I've actually read that the newer 1.4 TC II works a lot better than the older TC. I'll find out, hopefully next week.

Errr .... I'm also looking at the 16-35mm f/2.8 lens.

That should be enough for this year.
