Help me find a club/social outlet!

    (posted in AH because i expect some *lighthearted* replies)

    Here's the story,

    I've found myself on disability for the last 5 months and will be on it for the foreseeable future, but! I'm crawling the walls looking for something to do.

    * I play bass badly, guitar worse, and the singing is as reduntant as me
    * I'm fairly unfit as sitting on my ass for the last 5 months hasn't exactly helped my firm body lol
    * I'm beyond rubbish at football/GAA/field sports in general
    * I smoke
    * I'm 28, male, live in Bray but am not afraid of public transport (if thats important)
    * I'm broke. :) So it has to be inexpensive

    My interests are:
    Writing (badly)
    Photography (but I've no camera as my last one is as broke as I am)
    Cycling (see the fitness factor)
    Drama/comedy (performing/behind the scenes/writing?)

    So there you have it. I need a social outlet instead of staring at the four walls especially in this weather. Instead of saying "join a photography club" please mention which club you mean ie. I hear there's a great drama club in Shankill etc.

    Cheers.

    PS: Spending 7 nights a week in the pub is not the social outlet I'm looking for!

    Check musems and libraries to see what is on in the next few months.
    There are often language excahnges, book clubs and dicussion groups.
    Make a list of all the books and film you said you would one day get around to reading/watching.

    Criminality is the way to go here.
    So some suggestions;
    • Become a pimp.
    • Traffic some people.
    • Become the head of a Roma family and pick pocket everyone in your home town.
    • Start a porno website, (maybe using family members to begin with.)
    • Arson is a forgotten art.
    • Start a pedophile ring, (your local priest may be able to point you in the right direction here)
    • Terrorism. Become a towel head, grow a beard and drive a car full of explosives into Dublin airport.
    All the best.

    +1 for part time study. Thats if you can manage the committment it brings. Doesnt even have to be something related to your job. Maybe cooking, or trade work or something related.

    If you have plenty of time at home, I would also strongly suggest that you revisit the idea of brushing up on the guitar/bass. Book yourself a couple of lessons with a teacher close by. With alot of time on your hands, a good practise ethic and guidance from a good tutor, you could become very good in a relatively short space of time :) Feck it, you might be able to eventually teach.

    I'll head to the library and have a look. At this moment in time, I feel like I'm under house arrest!

    Not much of a future in terrorism. Being promoted to a suicide bomber has its downfalls. Maybe petty smuggling?

    Is there much of a social aspect to this? Also, I don't swim, would that be a problem?

    There's the rapin' and the plunderin' and the rogerin' of shipmates, and maybe the occasional wlecoming wench. So, yes.
    Can't swim? Not an issue unless you prefer being eaten by a shark to drowning (The modern pirate is open to such ideas as lifejackets, and fashionable jackets have been released by most major designers)
