What's the story with everyone suddenly living in Cavan??

I've worked in a few call centres in the last few years and u wouldn't believe the amount of people who ring up drom C-iiiiiiiiavvvvvan. Most of them are from a town called 'Bailieborough'?!

So I ask you... What's the attraction??

Living within commuting distance of Dublin in a 3 floor 4 bed brand new home bought at 30% of the price it would be in a bad area of Dublin, let alone in a good area. Half of Blanch moved to south Cavan in recent years.

Mate lives in one. Wouldnt be for me personally but its some gaff for the money.

Funny that a thread should start on this subject. Im moving to Cavan in July. Luckily I wont be commuting to Dublin though as I am transferring my job to Cavan. In the process of selling my house and will be renting in Cavan for a year before buying again.

As long as I can get to a good gym and have broadband I will be very happy in my new place :)

Going to see a 3 bed semi d tomorrow in Cavan with a few to renting it. Its only 2 years old, 4 miles from Cavan town (in an estate of about 200 houses). Its unfurnished BUT the rent is only 380 a month.. Happy Days.

Yep, ya can't really beat it. Nice place, cheap rent. And not too far from Dublin. FYI, the gym in the Cavan Crystal hotel is nice, and generally very quiet as it's members only. Not sure what the membership is but I don't think it's too steep.

Sheer madness you all realise this will end bad when all those dubs that moved there start having little Cavan children, oh how I will laugh then.

No, there's the same amount of people living in Cavan as always.
What has actually happened is that Cavan has finally been connected to the phone network.

Before, all they had was a system of cans connected by strings.

Cavan seems to have still retained it's old Irish ways. It's a lovely county with nice people.
But they dress like farmers in clubs :p

Fair comment on the commuting I suppose with hourly buses to Dublin. That's if you live in south Cavan though. But god help you if you get stuck in traffic. Can be an absolute nightmare sometimes.

But be warned though, there is nothing more unattractive on a girl then a Cavan accent.

Tell me about it! A fair amount of good looking women about, if you know where to look, but then they open their mouth and I want to shoot myself...

.. probably the visa restrictions on getting in...

.. i think you have to be able to show that your mommy and daddy shared parents

..nah.. i joke.. i like cavan... bit too near Longford for my liking tho

It's now mini-Blanch. There's a heap load of skangers after moving up there, a couple I used to work with back in the day. Won't be long til there's a Cavan version of the Stickyfloortex.

This is true, all those new estates is just trouble a-brewin'! I live near Bailieboro and it used to be such a nice quiet little place. Now it's houses end to end and full of people I'd cross the street to avoid at night!

Yep, I remember my Geography teacher telling me about 5 years ago that Virginia was the fastest growing town in the country!

I suppose once it started to fill up and house prices started to rise, the next nearest town was Bailieborough. Awful shíthole! :pac:

yep, Cavans full of auslanders now. County Cavan had its first ever drugs shooting/murder last week. Funnily enough, the victim isnt of Cavan origin..

When I first moved up to Dublin, I shared a house with three Cavan Women who regularly called into pizza hut in the way home from work to rob the toilet roll. Now they defined mean for Cavan..

Even funnier, the guy charged with it is a native Cavanman.

    What is your point exactly?

It might also be worth mentioning Cavan-Monaghan has the highest assault rate in the country. And thats just the ones that end in arrest, never mind how many go unreported. Roughest place Ive ever been.

Cavan is a cool place and still home to the True Sons of Breffini

Westies didn't last long when they came to Virginia,we ran them out of town !

Virginia is still the best town in Cavan ,Dubs that move there should feel privileged

I know nothing about Cavan except for when I went to the Kilmore for my cousin's wedding and the beer, grub and craic was great. Based on that Cavan gets my approval!!
