Getting a PS3 through airport security as hand luggage

I am currently working in London and I'm planning on buying a PS3 and as it is a good bit cheaper over here.

I was wondering if anyone would know if there would be any problem getting an unopened PS3 through security and onto the plane as hand luggage?

I wouldn't be carrying any other other hand luggage just the PlayStation in a carrier bag. I think it wouldn't exceed the maximum dimensions of hand luggage, but security in London airports is a lot tighter then Dublin.

    Thanks for any advice.

you'll be fine. as long as it's under the max dimensions for carry on.

i'm assuming you're thinking about tax and customs? unless you bought it in jersey then it will be ok.

Prob nothing to worry about but may be worth getting rid of the original box and the packaging that comes with it.

why? there's no need really, only need for that would be if he was trying to break the law.

OP i've brought guitar cases onboard - never from london though - but you should be alright.

In my head I had imagined that the size of a PS3 box would have been too big to carry on as hand luggage but now that I've googled it I can see that it should be just fine.

I brought some games consoles back before Christmas, and I was asked to open the packaging each time.
    Other than that, no issues.

Off-topic I know but how can a PS3, or any console, be cheaper here in good oul rip off Ireland? I'm shocked! I far as I know most electronics are far cheaper in UK. You're right about the security in London Airports, but Stansted has got to be the worst. They're so over the top, bossy and aggressive at times.

I saw someone in Dublin airport with an Xbox 360, so a PS3 shouldn't be a problem. He just needed to take it out of his bag, like a laptop.

Right so should I bring it in its box unopened or just in my backpack and take it out like a laptop at security?

Anyway i'm going back the next two weekends, think I'll ask someone at the security area just in case and do it next weekend. Don't really wanna risk abandoning a brand new PS at the airport.

And if all comes to all theres a HMV in the duty-free part of Stansed Airport in theory I should be able to buy one there...

I was over in London a while back and bought a PS3 over there

Was flying back to Dublin with BMI

Checked on my bag and brought on the PS3 as hand luggage. When checking in bag just asked them if it was ok to carry the console on as hand luggage and no problem

Maybe check with airline first as I was going to bring a Wii gun over but was told no
