    Hi guys,

I cant ring anyone because it is too late but does anyone know what companies, if any, accept aftermarket restrictions on bikes?

    I tried Quinn and AON,

I am on a provisional, and am looking at a bike, something cheap, like a varadero or similar style, I am contemplating getting a bike like a bandit and restricting it but am unsure of whether I can do this and get a quote, does anybody know??

    Thanks,

The bandit and that style of bikes can be bought factory-restricted nowadays, and something only a little different, like the kawasaki er-5 (a 500cc twin) with such a restriction is a great learner. Something like that could be picked up second hand for reasonable money. Most of the manufacturers sell a lot of their range with a factory restrictor in it.

I may be corrected, but anything bigger than that with a restrictor is probably not going to be a great ride?

Also, the insurers will probably not accept an aftermarket restrictor on a bike.

You may get a quote, but insurance companies don't recognise aftermarket restictors. You'll get the same price/loadings as a full power version. Have a look at getting factory restricted or a bike below 33bhp

I'm insured with AON. My Bandit has an aftermarket restrictor that was fitted by the previous owner. I'm a 26yo first time biker on a prov with a grade 2 and I paid €550, which I think is pretty reasonable..

It's true that they quote based on the full potential of the bike but at the same time they stipulated that I'd have to get the grade 2 before they quoted. They will tell you that 'the restrictor is for your license' and they quote on a full power basis.

Also depends on your age, under 25 and you'll be lucky to get insured for any kind of reasonable money or even quoted at all.

    WTF?

Did they not tell you to get a grade 2 assessment? I did nothing underhanded when I started just 3 or 4 months ago!!!!
