SE on self destruct

On Tuesday i asked the SE if they would be interested in running a Charity Event in the club. Martin (nice guy), the Chief Exec, said he would be happy to hold it but full registrations would still have to be paid. I said this was not a problem and that I understood that Texas Hold'em fundraisers are NOT a great money spinner but that more money would be raised on the night from an auction, raffle etc etc. I also told him I already had 30 players, who had never played in the club, coming to the venue for the event. He said initially that this was a great boost for the poker room and was delighted with the proposed event. An hour later, after consulting with Albert, he then came back and informed me that the club had turned down other offers of such events and it would be unfair to take on mine! On Tuesday there was just about 3 tables playing the satellite for the main event taking place on Friday. The atmosphere was not good and all the regulars where saying that it has been very quiet recently. I love the SE. It's the only club I play tourney's in. But if they have any REAL interest in keeping the poker room open surely with my offer of bringing 30 -50 fresh faced fish to the club they should be biting my hand off!! I can only think of two reasons why they would do this. 1. The rumors are true and they have no interest in keeping the poker room open, or 2. There are people running the club with zero business sense... Thoughts anyone?

I'm sure other clubs would jump at it. I've done several things like that with Luke myself.

    Playable_Hand is Denis Reyes.
To the original poster - Luke's is definitely your best bet for this sort of thing.

Hi Phil, CHL's is the place for this and gl with it. That Albert fella is a sickening slimy smoozing wannabe type and bears a lot of the responsibility for the state that the poker room is now in. Sure every time ya see him he is sitting on his couch in the gaming room smoozing the latest ''clients''.. Makes the proverbial ''skin crawl'' ( and that was what the missus thought of him)

The card room is not profitable for this club...End of.. Writing is on the walls I would bet

Agree with you Jay, and the other guy Martin didn't seem like a bad guy. But after his talk with myself and Vera he was all positive but as soon as he had a chat with the aforementioned it all changed. I REALLY do believe they are trying to run it into the ground.... it will be a shame

If as predicated the Se goes to the wall pokerwise, which will be a pity,
will it be a disaster for poker in dublin?

    pros? cons?

Personally, i would hate to see it go... it's a relaxed place to play poker and I think the dealers are top class. As far as a disaster for poker in Dublin, probably not, but the regulars would be lost without it. As far as pros and cons go, the only pro would be for the other clubs. It is a disgrace that a club such as this is obviously run and controlled by people with little or no interest in the development of live poker.

Con = having the working class scum encroach ever further onto the southside. Now it won't just be taxi drivers!
