    I'm looking to get a Canon EF 24-70 f2.8L

    I have at the moment

    Tamron 17-50 f2.8 d II

    Canon EF mkII 50mm f1.8

Canon EF 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM

Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS USM

I figure this will nicely round off my collection
I will have "L" in the most used range ...

So would people recommend this 24-70 L lens ?

and what about a super wide lens ? I hear the Canon 10-22 is good ,
but im a bit skeptical about it as it is EF S ..
I have a 400D .. but maybe in a few years will get a full frame...

If in a few years time you will buy a full frame you should think about that later.
I bought the 10-22 and its great, i also think i might have a full frame one day but if you always think like that you don't buy anything :P

I don't know much about the 24-70L but from what ived seen gives you very good shots :)

The 24-70mm f/2.8 L is a brilliant lens. I highly recommend it. Brilliant for portraits and landscapes.

I also have the EF-S 10-22mm and it's very good on the xxxD and xxD body. A really nice lens with decent quality for it's price.

Not to hi-jack your thread but its kinda relevant

If I someone was the purchase the lens from Calumet in Belfast and was VAT registered here in Republic, can that be claimed back?

Which do you prefer for landscapes, the 24-70 or 10-22?

When I get eventually a DSLR, 24-70/2.8L will be the lens that will be with it.
I have 28-70/4 and I am used to that a lot. It is not wide enough, but covers my photography needs so far. I have some other lenses, but I don't use them at all. Well, I use 50mm because it has bigger hole.

you won't be charged VAT to start with, even better (I've got some stuff of DL K in Belfast and some bits from UK mainland, all the same)

I actually prefer the 24-70 since it's a better quality lens. I also shoot with a 1D MkIII now, so can't use the 10-22mm on it.

If you want to do wide landscapes, simply take a few snaps with the 24-70mm and stitch them together in Photoshop (or similar). Works brilliantly.

Dunno about the tamron, but I have the sigma and it's excellent. I use it on my 400d and even with the 1.6crop it' still pretty wide.

Here's a load of photos taken with the sigma 10-20mm on a 400d...

You never pay it, when you purchase you supply them with your VAT number and they invoice you without VAT.
