Creative Zen Problem

I have a Creative Zen Microphoto 8Gb Mp3 Player. It has been working perfectly for the last 2 years I have had it. Yesterday, when I tried to use it, the screen was very dark. It was extremely hard to see anything. I tried changing the contrast but it was already at its highest. There seems to be no setting which has changed. Im convinced the problem has arisen as a result of someone of my brothers messing with it. None of them will own up. None of them know how to fix it. Can someone help me please?!

Without being flippant. resetting it usually does the trick for mot problems (I've only had one and it as nothing like yours but still...)

Of course I tried this! No luck however. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

    Thought you might have...

Have you checked through all the display settings? maybe they put the "backlight time" to only 1 second? You can change Brightness too

How do you get to display settings?
I've looked for it but I cant find it whatsoever
I thought it would be in "player settings" just like "contrast"

My brother now reckons the backing light has blown out. Does anyone know a place where I can get the backing light repaired? Somewhere in Cork City would be preferable.

It doesn't use a backing light as the screen is OLED, so the whole screen would need to be replaced.

    Thanks Mactard.
However, this makes my situation worse because now I'm all the way back to square 1. I still have no idea what the problem actually is. Any ideas?

True, but at least you know for sure which numerical square you're on ;)

In my opinion the issue simple has to do with age, the screen is probably dying out... the OLED screens used in the ZMP were pretty low quality.

Another possibility is that one of your brothers dropped it and broke one of the screens power connectors... I doubt that though...

Also you might want to change your thread title to mention it's a Creative Zen Micro Photo and not the newest Creative DAP, which is known as the "ZEN"

Be cheaper to buy a new player than get it repaired I reckon.

I am thinking this too, to be honest. But it's a great MP3 Player and has never failed me before now.
I bought a PS3 2 months ago, so I'm not really up to forking too much money out. I'm hoping a repair will be cheap enough, but if it is'nt, I'll just have to get a new MP3 player

Bear in mind a new Zen 8GB (refurb is €75) from the creative online store. So the cost of repair would have to considerably less than that.

How much would it cost to get a new screen?

No idea. You'd have to get on to Creative.

The USB is now messed up with the MP3 Player:mad:. It wont connect to the PC. I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a new MP3 Player:(

I downloaded a recovery tool from Creative. It wants me to go to Solution ID 16737. I tried this but the Knowledge Base's server is messed up because it keeps saying there is a problem and so I can't get an answer:mad:

remove battery , leave out for a few hours ,replace it and see if it works.
